Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer, presented the "Honor Card" to the former metropolitan, district and town mayors who served the city at the ceremony held at the Historical Coal Gas Factory. In line with the decision taken by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Council, the cards were prepared to honor the mayors and townsmen who served the city for life.

Stating that he understands the difficulties that mayors face during their term of office, Mayor Soyer said, “I was the mayor of a small town with a population of 10-35 thousand for 40 years. I want to say that I know what they went through, what they went through. I would like to say that after I became the Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality, I experienced what my dear brother Burhan went through. We really don't do an easy job. Today, we are living the multiplicity of what you all went through in the past. Something has to be done. You've accomplished it before. Meeting under the roof of an association is a very important step. This step needs to be continued. I am ready to comrade and walk beside you in order to get the rights you deserve. From now on, I will be there for this association to continue its existence and grow its power. This is a meeting of loyalty,” he said.

Mentioning the difficulties of being a mayor in İzmir, Mayor Soyer said, “I believe with all my heart; each of you has a job in this city. There is a stone that he puts on top of the stone. I know how heavy it is to be a mayor in Turkey, in Izmir, and how many responsibilities it brings. So good luck to each and every one of you. It's good that you did it, it's good that you put your effort into it. Because if İzmir still continues to be an exemplary city for Turkey, each of you has a great contribution to this. I would like to thank all of you for your effort, contribution and support as a president who is in office today. We will increase your needs as we see the deficiencies in life. We will continue to do whatever we can. I bow respectfully in front of all of your efforts," he said.

Former Seyrek Mayor Nurgül Uçar Aktuğ stated that the Honor Card application was implemented in İzmir for the first time in Turkey and said, “It is a very important thing, I care about it. Drawing attention to the importance of association, the Founding President of the Izmir Mayors Association and the former Mayor of Bornova Municipality Cengiz Bulut expressed his satisfaction with the implementation.
Honor cards were presented after the speeches. Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer, gave the cards to the former Deputy Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and former Mayor of Bornova, Sırrı Aydoğan, and the former Mayor of Konak Municipality, Sema Pekdaş.
