While Eastern Anatolia and Southeastern Anatolia are having the driest winter of recent years, Mehmetçik, who works on the border line and beyond, has been fighting against cold weather and snow for two months, as well as challenging terrain.

Snow thickness exceeded half a meter in more than 300 of the domestic and cross-border base areas affiliated to the Land Forces Command.

In the Martyr Muhammet Koç Base Region, which is at an altitude of 3 thousand 450 in Hakkari countryside, the snow thickness was measured as 440 centimeters.

While the temperature values were measured below zero in more than half of the base areas, the coldest night during the homeland watch was at the Çıldır Border Post in Ardahan with minus 20. This was followed by the Dikilitaş Base Area in the Hakkari countryside with minus 15, and the Nirvaseytü Base Area in the north of Iraq with minus 14.
