TÜRK-İŞ President Atalay Announces the Red Line in Minimum Wage

Pointing to the hunger limit for the minimum wage, Türk-İş President Ergün Atalay said that the minimum figure should be 7 thousand 785 TL, and made a new statement. Claiming that his statement was falsified, Atalay said, "There was an attempt to create a perception as if we accepted the hunger limit as the minimum wage."

Ergün Atalay, President of the Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (Türk-İş), said in a statement yesterday that the minimum wage should be 7 liras. Atalay said, “This figure is the red line. We will not be at the table on a subject below this figure.”

During the process of starting the work for the minimum wage, the 'hunger limit' statement by Ergün Atalay, the President of Türk-İş, Turkey's largest labor union, caused reactions.

Making a new statement after the reactions, Atalay argued that his words were distorted and said, “A perception was tried to be created as if we accepted the hunger limit as the minimum wage. When I was asked at the bargaining table, I meant to say that the hunger limit is in the middle and I will talk about it. Until today, we have also received a raise below the hunger limit. But that's what the base wanted," he said.

Indicating that he was asked whether a wage at the hunger limit would be accepted as the minimum wage in the television program, Atalay said, “In response to this question, I said that we would definitely not accept this, that it was already a hunger limit, and that we could discuss proposals above this amount. Those who watch the broadcast will understand much better what I mean. Let our workers rest in peace, we will fight in the best way possible," he said.
