Sustainable Development Goals Treasure Hunt was organized with the cooperation of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, İzmir Sustainable Urban Development Network (SKGA), İzmir Our City Association and UNDP Turkey to draw attention to the fight against climate crisis, inequality, poverty and hunger. The Treasure Hunt held in Kültürpark was initiated by UNDP İzmir representative Güvenç Küçüktok, after the speeches of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Barış Karcı and UN Turkey Resident Representative Louisa Vinton.

The importance of establishing a free, fair and peaceful future for the world was emphasized with the event that aims to localize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is based on solidarity and cooperation rather than a competition format.

35 volunteers took part

In the Treasure Hunt, which consists of 17 teams aiming to decipher the codes created for each of the 79 sustainable development goals, 315 contestants took on different roles with the theme of “leaving no one behind” and experienced the inequalities between people. The competition, which started after the inequality game, ended at 17.30. The coordination of the 28 teams that reached the final point by deciphering all the codes was provided by 35 volunteers.

Awarded in many categories

The event provided an opportunity for participants, many of whom are young, to explore the sustainable development goals and consider how they can contribute to achieving them by 2030.

At the end of the competition, the teams were selected as “the most helpful”, “the most colorful”, “the most environmentally friendly”, “the most sustainable”, “the most running”, “the most social”, “the most inclusive”, “the most talented”, “the most creatively named” and received awards in the “fastest” team categories. The awards were given at the Kulturpark Open Air Stage.
