With the support of Ordu Metropolitan Municipality, the ancient period of the region is brought to light in the excavations at the Board Castle, where the 6-year-old Mother Goddess Cybele Statue from the 2th Mithridatic period and approximately 100 pieces of historical artifacts are found.

Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Mehmet Hilmi Güler visited the Board Castle, which is the first scientific archaeological excavation site in the Eastern Black Sea Region and is a candidate for the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, where the works that shed light on history were found, and got information about the works.

President Güler stated that the Council Castle, where thousands of artifacts such as iron, ceramics, bowls, pots, spears and arrowheads, axes, daggers, weapons, ornaments, blacksmith's anvils and cubes were unearthed, are suitable for archeology, history, culture and mountaineering sports. He said that it will become an important center of attraction with its fields.

“WE WILL COVER THE AREA”

Stating that important artifacts were unearthed from the excavations of the Board Castle, Mayor Güler stated that the area will be covered and a magnificent area like Göbeklitepe will be revealed.

President Güler continued his words as follows:

“We are in a wonderful place. The whole army is under your feet. It's a wonderful place. This means that this place is emerging as a place where very enjoyable people lived before us. Council Castle is both a settlement and a place where soldiers live and live with their families. It coincides with the 2nd century BC. We know this from the finds. A place used during the time of Emperor Mithridates. We found very important artifacts here. We found the statue of Cybele and there are statues of Dionyss. Apart from that, there are cubes and weapon parts. They are of course the most advanced products of that period. We collect them in an excavation house. Some of them are in the Archeology Museum in Istanbul. Replicas of them are also produced. We are working to offer this to our service. We will cover the area and we are developing a project about it. Just like Göbekli Tepe, a magnificent work will emerge here.”

“THIS IS THE EXCAVATION SITE MADE SYSTEMATICALLY FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE BLACK SEA”

President Güler stated that the region will turn into an important center of attraction in all aspects.

President Güler continued his speech as follows:

Another beauty of this place is that there are very beautiful cliffs that we have identified. There are very important rocks with its landscape and formation, as well as its geological structure. We want to use these rocks in mountaineering. It will be a nice center of attraction for mountaineering people and our youth. The work has both an archeological dimension and a sports dimension. With its cliffs and its cultural dimension, this place is becoming an important cultural and tourism center. This is the first systematic excavation site in the Black Sea region. The historical aspect of the Black Sea has generally not been studied much. In Ordu, we try to unearth these artifacts and interpret them together with other artifacts we find. Analyzes are being made. There is also an interest in this place by scientists internationally. Unraveling the history of this place is very important. It was a neglected area, so we pay special attention to it. This place is recovering as sub-elements of tourism, together with culture, archeology and history, as well as sports.”
