Public transport company Cottbusverkehr GmbH (CV), from Cottbus, Germany, which signed a contract with the Škoda Group for the delivery of seven trams in 2021, decided to use the option and ordered 15 more modern one-way three-unit trams. This represents another success of the Group in the German market.

The first contract for the delivery of new trams for the state of Brandenburg was announced by three cities together – Frankfurt (Oder), Brandenburg and Cottbus. The Škoda Group was successful in strong European competition and managed to find a solution that met the requirements of all three transport companies. These were almost identical tools that needed to be able to work in three different environments at the same time. This was a unique public tender.

Regional President Mike Niebling said, “Executing an option in a contract is always a strong sign for us that the partnership with the client is on a solid foundation. “I am very pleased that CV has decided to purchase additional modern vehicles,” he said. West at Škoda Group.

“The German market is a huge challenge for us and one that we face with confidence that we have a lot to offer. In addition to the modern trams that we currently manufacture for seven German cities and the push-pull trains already operating from Munich to Nuremberg, our portfolio also includes fully emission-free buses that are an excellent choice for sustainable transport. cities of the future. Also, all of our products are backed by our high quality technology. This year at InnoTrans we presented our own anti-collision system for rolling stock, which transport companies have been requesting for some time. Therefore, I am convinced that our presence in the German market will continue to strengthen,” added Mike Niebling.

Features of the new tram

Trams are modern one-way three-unit vehicles with two revolving and one non-rotary bogies with a 70% low floor. This will make transportation more accessible for those living in the city. Passengers can look forward to comfortable, air-conditioned, spacious and wheelchair-accessible vehicles with multifunctional interiors for wheelchairs, prams or bicycles, and trams are adapted for boarding and disembarking. In the new trams, the information system will become clear with a few screens and panels. A camera system will also be part of the car's equipment for better driver visibility and increased traffic safety. The operator will appreciate the low operating costs of the product from the Škoda ForCity Plus platform. The new trams will replace the existing high-rise trams.

Škoda Group achieves success in the German market with its products. For example, it has delivered trams to Chemnitz and Schöneiche in the past, but passengers can also take a push-pull train that runs on the line between Nuremberg and Munich. In addition to supplying trams to Brandenburg, the company is currently working on trams for the transport operator Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr, serving the city of Bonn and the cities of Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and Heidelberg.
