We have set a concrete goal for İzmir with all our stakeholders in the sector: to increase the number of tourists visiting İzmir to four million and spread it over 12 months and 30 districts. The digitalization of tourism is our greatest opportunity to achieve this goal. That's why we gathered around three thousand destinations of Izmir in a single mobile application. Visit İzmir, which we have made available free of charge in Turkish, English and many different languages, begins to guide the tourists who want to come to İzmir before they set off on their journey. Another priority for us to further develop our work is direct flights to Izmir. We are working in close partnership with the airline companies that organize flights to Izmir on this subject and we have started the Direct Izmir program in this context. We know we are on the right track. We also know that this road will lead to a much higher quality of life.”

“We beat the pandemic, tourism is returning”

Stating that travel habits have changed after the pandemic, President Soyer said, “While we are planning the steps we will take in the field of tourism on a local scale in Izmir, we understand this change on a global scale and align Izmir with this change. Our Outdoor fair, which we have been organizing together with our TTI fair for two years, is a reflection of this determination. Perhaps it is necessary to openly accept this: A tourism understanding that does not benefit the city economy, tradesmen, and taxi drivers has completed its life around the world. We have to spread a new tourism to all capillaries of our country, where Turkey does not become a cheap destination, and which is fed by the power and abundance of the local.
