Environment, Urban Planning and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum stated that the definitive damage assessment work carried out with a team of 23 experts after the earthquake that occurred in Düzce on November 2022, 300 was completed. Minister Kurum made a statement on his official social media account, “We have completed our damage assessment studies in Düzce. Our teams examined 66 buildings and 172 independent units. There are 166 heavily damaged structures to be demolished. We have already completed the demolition of 375 buildings and have started the tender process for new ones. We will quickly build our healthy houses without making any of our citizens suffer!”

In the statement made by the Ministry, it was reported that the damage assessment works were completed with a team of 300 experts, including civil engineers, affiliated to the General Directorate of Construction Affairs of the Ministry in Düzce. Emphasizing that expert teams arrived at the scene within 2 hours after the earthquake, the Ministry's statement included the following information:

“Right after the earthquake, we stood by our citizens in Düzceli. As a result of our damage assessment studies that started on 23.11.2022; 166 buildings with 375 independent sections were inspected by damage assessment teams made up of civil engineers. Among the buildings whose damage assessment studies were completed, 66 buildings were identified as heavily damaged. Following the damage assessment works, controlled demolition works continue in the remaining 172 buildings under the coordination of our General Directorate of Construction.

“Tender preparation works started by TOKİ”

In the statement, it was stated that damage assessment studies were carried out in 452 schools in the region and 1 school was determined as moderately damaged. It has been reported that reinforcement works will be carried out in this school by the Ministry of National Education. It was stated that severe damage was detected in 577 of 5 public buildings, except for the schools and mosques that were examined in the region affected by the earthquake.

In the statement, it was also stated that preparations for the tender for the construction of disaster houses were started by TOKİ.
