A 15-car freight train in Thailand carrying plastics to Malaysia was attacked by bombs as it passed through Songkla state. As a result of the violent explosion, 15 freight cars of the 11-car train derailed and fell to the side of the road.
While the locomotive section of the train, which had a crew of 2, including 4 mechanics, remained on the rails, there were no injuries or casualties in the attack.
Regional police chief Bantern Laochareng said in a statement after the attack that the attack was carried out with a 26-pound homemade bomb, and after the violent explosion, a 2-meter pit formed under the tracks where the bomb was placed.
Laochareng also stated that there were suspicions of terrorism or theft in the attack.
While the Hatyai (Thailand) - Padang Besar (Malaysia) train line, where the attack was carried out, was closed to transportation, an investigation was started regarding the incident.
