Yaşar Kemal Symposium Ended with Brother Folk Songs Concert

The symposium “In the Garden with a Thousand and One Flowers with Yaşar Kemal”, in which the literature of Yaşar Kemal, the conscience of Anatolia, was discussed on the axes of “nature” and “human”, ended with Anatolian folk songs performed by Kardeş Türçiler. The people of Izmir, who flocked to the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center for the concert, did not sit down during the concert.

Organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and Yaşar Kemal Foundation, the symposium “In the Garden with a Thousand and One Flowers with Yaşar Kemal” ended with a concert of Kardeş Türçiler. In the two-day symposium, the people of İzmir, listening to Yaşar Kemal's call for “hope” in literature, accompanied Anatolian folk songs sung by Kardeş Türgülü in the evening. The people of Izmir showed great interest in the concert in the great hall of Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center (AASSM).

Feryal Öney, one of the soloists of Kardeş Türçiler, said, “We are all here today because we love Yaşar Kemal so much. Yaşar Kemal told us very well about people and his opposition to war. That's why we read his works with pleasure. It was very nice to read the story in all our songs from Yaşar Kemal. We always remember him with love and respect in our hearts. It is good that Yaşar Kemal has passed away from this world”.
The texts of the great master Yaşar Kemal, which were read by the group members and describing the culture, people, nature and geography of Anatolia, received great applause. Throughout the concert, the people of Izmir, accompanying Kardes Turkuler in unison, did not sit down in the section where the tempo increased. At the end of the concert, the whole hall gave a standing ovation to Kardes Türküsü for several minutes.

Then, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Ertuğrul Tugay and Yaşar Kemal's wife and Yaşar Kemal Foundation President Ayşe Semiha Baban Gökçeli presented olive saplings, which are symbols of peace, to the group members.
