What Is Cramp?

Cramp is a tissue spasm. When cramp occurs, the tissue contracts and this contraction causes sudden and severe pain. Especially in pregnant women, these cramps mostly occur in the calf muscles during sleep at night. Muscle fatigue, injury, muscle strain or overload can cause muscle cramps.

What Causes Pregnancy Cramps?

Cramps during pregnancy occur due to calcium and magnesium deficiency. During pregnancy, the fetus in the mother's womb grows continuously. With this growth, the need for energy, vitamins and minerals also increases. Therefore, pregnant women should benefit from the supplementation of some minerals in order to meet these needs of the fetus. Apart from this, the pressure created by the growing uterus on the vein system in the circulatory system and the circulatory system problems that arise due to this can also cause cramps. These cramps, which mostly occur at night during pregnancy, can also harm sleep patterns. They need to start medication.
