At the construction site of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS), the assembly of the first of the three bridge cranes to be installed in the turbine building of the 1st unit has begun.

The largest of the cranes to be installed will be an electric double girder overhead crane with a lifting capacity of 350 tons. The crane will be used for lifting and transporting the turbine building during the construction, installation and operation phases of the nuclear power plant.

The crane, which has a service life of at least 70 years, has three hoists, namely the main winch, the auxiliary winch and the electric winch, with lifting capacities of 350, 40 and 6,3 tons, respectively. With a length of 56,8 meters, a height of 5,8 meters and a lifting height of 43 meters, the crane has a total weight of 385 tons.

Work continues for the installation of the mechanical and electrical equipment of the crane in the turbine building of the 1st unit of Akkuyu NPP. These equipment will then be gradually connected in accordance with the manufacturing documentation. All work, including commissioning and commissioning of the crane, will take at least 37 days to complete.

NGS First Deputy General Manager and Construction Director Sergey Butckikh said in his statement on the subject: “We have started the assembly of the first and largest of the three bridge cranes in the turbine building. Once the installation is complete, all cranes will be used to place equipment and move heavy loads in the turbine building. When the unit is put into operation, cranes are needed to organize the maintenance and repair of the main and auxiliary equipment of the turbine building. The service life of each crane is designed to last the lifetime of the unit. This means that the highest degree of reliability in design and construction is ensured.”

Construction and installation work at the Akkuyu NPP site continues at all main and auxiliary facilities, including the four power units, coastal hydrotechnical structures, power distribution system, administrative buildings, training center and NPP physical protection facilities. All stages of construction at the Akkuyu NPP site are closely followed by independent inspection organizations and the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK), the national regulatory agency.
