Tunç Soyer It was.

Our aim is to organize hope.
A century ago, at the Izmir Economy Congress, the President stated that the decisions taken while the Lausanne negotiations were still in progress, while the Republic was not yet established, determined Turkey's economic roadmap. Tunç Soyer“The Izmir Economic Congress was a meeting of historical importance that resulted in a description of how a reborn state sees the future,” he said.
Pointing out that the problems that have not been resolved since the 2007-2008 financial crisis are getting worse with the pandemic, Soyer said:
“Unfortunately, our country is experiencing this problem much more deeply. We see that autocratic tendencies that disregard the constitutional legal order, which is the fundamental guarantee of rights and freedoms, are getting stronger in many countries. This gives rise to the democracy crisis we are experiencing in Turkey and in the world. All of these leave a deep havoc, especially on the younger generations. Turkey's youth are hopeless and, moreover, without dreams. We cannot improve anything in a society of individuals who have lost their dreams and hopes. Neither politics, nor law, nor science, nor economics. The Economics Congress of the Second Century is a civil response from İzmir to this very clear cry of our society. Organizing this meeting again in İzmir after a hundred years has only one purpose: to organize hope. We have to create a democratic, peaceful and safe environment where our young people can dream again and embrace these dreams with all their heart.
As our ancestors did a hundred years ago
Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç SoyerStating that they serve two purposes by organizing this congress, he said:
“First of all, we protect the hundred-year-old heritage of our Republic. Second, we are taking the floor to build Turkey's future. Just like our ancestors did a hundred years ago. We implement the eight-month congress process in a civic and participatory spirit and with full transparency.
The main interlocutor and support of our congress, which is a civil initiative, is the elected sector representatives, who are the lifeblood of our economy, as it was a hundred years ago. The Economic Congress of the Second Century is far beyond being an economic meeting, it is a civil movement that draws its strength from the common mind and our common conscience.”
