Can Eyelid Sagging Be Treated?

Anadolu Medical Center Ophthalmology Specialist Op. Dr. Yusuf Avni Yılmaz gave information about eyelid drooping and its treatment.

Emphasizing that increasing wrinkles and excess fat over time can cause skin sagging and even visual disturbances, Anadolu Health Center Ophthalmology Specialist Op. Dr. Yusuf Avni Yılmaz said, “In this case, medical intervention may become necessary in addition to aesthetic reasons. Eyelid surgery can be performed to correct sagging skin and adipose tissue, as well as sometimes replacing the excess fat with the lesser area, to create a lid line for people whose lid line is not clear.

Mentioning the importance of detailed eye examination, Op. Dr. Yusuf Avni Yılmaz said, “It should be determined whether there is an eye disease that prevents surgery by making general medical evaluations of the patient. In order for the eyelid surgery to be successful, the person should not have factors that will affect wound healing and should not have a serious eye disease. Those who have a disease that will prevent healing, those who have a deformity in the lid due to drooping eyebrows and those who are extremely obsessive may not be suitable candidates for eyelid surgery.

Pointing out that it is important for the patient to apply ice compresses after the operation, which varies between one and two hours, Op. Dr. Yusuf Avni Yılmaz said, “However, light physical activities such as walking can help relieve edema. Swelling may begin to decrease 48 to 72 hours after surgery. In order to minimize complications such as double vision, bleeding and infection that may occur in eyelid surgery, a careful pre-operative evaluation, a meticulous study and a good follow-up after surgery are important.
