The Chemistry R&D Project Market Award Ceremony, which was held for the 11th time this year with the approval of the TR Ministry of Trade and the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), with the organization of the Istanbul Chemicals and Products Exporters' Association (IKMIB) and the support of TUBITAK, was held at the Foreign Trade Complex on 10 December 2022. carried out. In the competition, in which 136 projects applied in total in six project categories, 19 projects were awarded and a monetary award of 900 thousand TL was given.

This year, the eleventh Chemistry R&D Project Market event was held by İKMİB to ensure sustainable exports in the chemical industry, which has become the leader in exports. In the "R&D Project Market" event, the biggest innovation event of the chemical industry, held since 2011, the top three projects in 6 categories were awarded. This year, 75 thousand TL was given to the first place, 50 thousand TL to the second and 25 thousand TL to the third in each category. In addition to the competition categories, applications were received from the "Success Stories" category, and four successful project owners were awarded plaques of appreciation.

Necmi Sadıkoğlu, Chairman of the Executive Board of the R&D Project Market, Necmi Sadıkoğlu, Members of the İKMİB Board of Directors, at the award ceremony of the 10th Chemical R&D Project Market, which was held at the Foreign Trade Complex on 2022 December 11, hosted by İKMİB Chairman of the Board of Directors Adil Pelister. -Ge Project Market Executive Board Members, project applicants, academics, industrialists and students participated.

Adil Pelister: “We have distributed 11 million 3 thousand TL in 200 years”

Speaking at the award ceremony, İKMİB Chairman of the Board Adil Pelister emphasized that with this important event, they brought together the academic world, SME businesses and project owners with R&D innovation studies and investors who want to commercialize their projects. Sharing information about the project, Pelister said, “We have received approximately 2011 project applications since 1500, and we will have distributed an award of 3 million 200 thousand Turkish lira in total, including this year. 34 of our projects that applied to our R&D Project Market event have been commercialized, pilot production has been made for 13 projects and sales negotiations are continuing. 10 of the commercialized projects succeeded in obtaining a patent. Projects are evaluated in 6 categories, and in addition to these, applications are also received from the 'Success Stories' category. We attach special importance to the 'Success Stories' category. Based on this importance, we prepared separate promotional films for 2020 Success Stories in 18 and 2021 in 10. Thus, we have provided the opportunity to promote both our chemical industry and the projects that strengthen our industry in many channels.”

Pelister: “We are establishing a Start-Up Entrepreneurship Center at our Chemical Technology Center”

Talking about the importance of technology and change, Pelister said, “Technology is developing rapidly and accordingly, radical changes are taking place in every field from education to social life and business world. While every field that can keep up with these changes will be able to provide permanence, for those who cannot keep up, change will become a destructive innovation. Here we, as İKMİB, are establishing a 'Start-Up Entrepreneurship' center in our Chemistry Technology Center, which we started with a sharp foresight. We are aware that the future is coming very fast. We are determined to be the pioneers of change rather than keeping up with the change. With this foresight and determination, we will continue to support new project developers in the future as we have done so far. I hope we will finish this year with the highest increase in exports on a sectoral basis, by completing our export target of over $33 billion. I would like to thank once again the invaluable industrialists and exporters of our industry, who have shown this success despite the global economic imbalances after the Russia-Ukraine war and the pandemic. Together, we will reach our 2030 chemical industry export target of 50 billion dollars, hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder, and we will even exceed it.”

Necmi Sadıkoğlu, Chairman of the R&D Project Market Executive Board, underlined that Turkey's chronic problem is selling cheap goods and said: “Our unit price per kilogram is around $1,70. This shows that we sell goods with a price advantage and shows that we do not produce qualified products. In the first eleven months of this year, we see that exports are 231 billion dollars and imports are 331 billion dollars and the foreign trade deficit is 100 billion dollars. This shows us that we need to reduce the deficit by making more value-added goods, and we can only achieve this through such competitions and university-industry cooperation. At this point, the importance of the R&D Project market emerges. We care about the R&D Project Market in this respect and organize it to produce value-added products. This year we are doing the 11th. For example, in our conversation with an award-winning project owner, he said that he met his laboratory needs with the award he received from us last year, and most of his needs were ready. This is of course very gratifying. We have success stories. Many projects came, but there were also commercialized ones among them. This makes us very happy. We hope that with such competitions, our industry will gain more value-added and qualified products. Our chemical industry has also become our pride this year. We exported 11 billion dollars in 30,7 months. It was our first time in the first place. This is something to be proud of for us. We hope that such activities will continue. We believe that these competitions have great contributions to the Turkish economy and the chemical industry. If we can increase the export kilogram unit value and the added value to 2,5-3 dollars, Turkey will not have a current account deficit,” he said.

136 projects applied this year

This year, a total of 6 projects applied for 136 different categories: "pharmaceuticals", "medical products", "paints and adhesives", "plastic and rubber", "cosmetics-soap and cleaning products" and "basic chemicals".

With the determination of the finalist projects in each category, the finalists presented their projects to the jury members in the morning and afternoon sessions on 10 December 2022. The category winners, determined as a result of the evaluation carried out by the jury, were entitled to receive a cash prize of 75 thousand TL, the runners-up with 50 thousand TL and the third prize of 25 thousand TL. A total of 19 thousand TL monetary award was given to 900 project owners who received a degree. In addition, projects that become commercialized within a year will be entitled to receive a special award of 100 thousand TL. Thus, the amount of the prize will increase to 1 million TL.

Four Success Stories awarded plaques of appreciation

In the award ceremony, in addition to the projects that deserved to receive cash awards in six categories, four projects in the success stories category were presented with plaques of appreciation.
