Yusufeli Dam and HEPP to Open on Tuesday

Under the auspices of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Prof. Dr. Yusufeli Dam, which will be put into service on Tuesday, November 22, with the participation of Vahit Kirişci, will set many records with its gigantic body and height, as well as its contribution to the country's economy and the benefits it will provide.

Yusufeli Dam and HEPP was built by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI), 70 kilometers southwest of Artvin, in the Eastern Black Sea Region, on the Coruh River, the fastest flowing river in Turkey.

The construction of the giant facility, which is the largest dam built in the Middle Coruh Basin, started in 2012.

The body of the dam, which is 220 meters high from the talweg and 275 meters from the foundation, is the height of a 100-storey skyscraper.

The dam, which is only 25 meters shorter than the Eiffel Tower, ranks first in Turkey and 5th in the world in terms of height with its huge body.

The body of the dam was designed as curved in vertical and horizontal planes. Thanks to this double curvature design, the pressure of millions of cubic meters of water behind the dam is transferred to the slopes and the strength of the hull is increased. This design also gives the huge body an elegant look.

The potential energy of the water stored behind the giant body will be converted into an annual average of 1 billion 888 million kilowatt-hours of electricity.

Yusufeli Dam will contribute 558 billion TL annually to the national economy with its 5 megawatts installed capacity.

Yusufeli Dam will also increase the hydroelectric energy production of the dams located downstream (following it according to the river flow direction).

In this way, electricity will be produced as much as the electricity consumed by Antalya in a year through the HEPP.

Yusufeli Dam will have a water storage volume of 2 billion 130 million cubic meters.

Since the Yusufeli Dam will release regulated water to the Artvin, Deriner, Borcka and Muratlı Dams downstream, it will also contribute significantly to the energy production amounts of these dams.

With 4 million cubic meters of concrete used in the body of Yusufeli Dam, a 13-meter-wide concrete road could be built from Artvin to Edirne.

NEARLY 6 TREES MOVED

By the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry General Directorate of Forestry (OGM), 5 thousand 844 tall fruit trees such as olives, mulberries, walnuts and pomegranates from the areas that will be inundated due to the construction of the dam were taken from their location with a tree removal machine using the transplantation method, where Yusufeli district was founded. moved to 300 acres in the new settlement.

In addition, 76 thousand 788 trees and saplings were planted in the region.

The stone cord terrace, galvanized lattice wire terrace and knitted fence terrace works carried out on an area of 480 decares against erosion will be completed within this year.
