The support mission team of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) Moscow Center visited the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS) site. The visit was made to prepare AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş., the operator of Akkuyu NPP, for the OSART expert mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The OSART (Operational Safety Review Team) program aims to assess the reliability of NGSs and the operator's readiness to ensure operational quality in accordance with international norms and IAEA standards.

WANO Moscow Center support mission experts, AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş. introduced the Pre-OSART method to its staff. Experts also provided staff with detailed information on the execution of the Pre-OSART/OSART mission, explaining the way NGS staff and contractors interact with IAEA experts.

The support mission included Dmitry Chichikin from the Moscow Center of the World Union of Nuclear Operators, Alexei Tararin from the Leningrad NPP, Andrey Smelov from the Beloyarsk NPP, Nikolay Kapitonov from the Kalinin NPP, Yuri Levchenko from the Kola Atomenergoremont and Andrey Andrushkiv from the Belarusian NPP.

Mission representatives visited Akkuyu NPP construction site and got information about the current status of Pre-OSART preparations and reviewed the documents of AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş. and made recommendations.

NGS First Deputy General Manager and Director of Construction, Sergey Butckikh, made the following statement on the subject: “Important work awaits our company in preparation for Pre-OSART. During an IAEA assignment, experts pay attention to the safety and reliability of the NPP business, consider factors influencing personnel performance, the organizational structure and objectives of company management, and evaluate the level of management of all NGS processes. We review best practices and implement the best ourselves. As the AKKUYU NUCLEAR team, we would like to thank WANO for the opportunity to work with highly professional experts from the nuclear industry.”
