While on duty, İzmir National Library Foundation President Ulvi Puğ moved the participants with Atatürk's poems, while İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Polyphonic Women's Choir sang unique melodies throughout the night. Those who completed their watch handed over their lanterns and their places to the next sentry. Participants wrote letters to Ata in the notebook prepared by the Izmir City Council. Citizens set up tents around the square to witness the historical day.

The people of Izmir, who participated in the vigil, expressed their excitement as follows:
