The 31st Quality Congress, where Turkey's leading institutions and organizations take place, was held on 22-23 November 2022 at Kocaeli Congress Center. Metro Istanbul was awarded the Turkey Excellence Award by KalDeR at the congress, where the awards were given to their owners as a result of meticulous evaluations. In the competency assessment made by KalDeR in line with the European Quality Management Foundation (EFQM) Excellence Model, Metro Istanbul's best practices in gender equality, diversity and inclusion received full marks. Metro Istanbul, which received the Turkish Excellence Award with 6 stars, became the first and only single rail system operator in the world to receive 6 stars.
ALPKÖKIN: “GOLDEN AGE OF RAIL SYSTEMS”
Speaking at the award ceremony, IMM Deputy Secretary General Assoc. Dr. Pelin Alpkökin noted that Istanbul is experiencing its golden age in the development of rail systems and said, “We are in a historical period in this field with our 10 rail system lines continuing at the same time. We are also proud of the breakthroughs made by Metro Istanbul, which runs our lines. We know that the future of transportation in Istanbul is in the rail systems, and we can say that both the present and the future of the metro are bright.”
ÖZGÜR SOY: “WE ADVANCED TOGETHER WITH OUR 5 thousand 500 EMPLOYEES”
After Alpkökin, Ozgur Soy, General Manager of Metro Istanbul, also delivered a speech. Saying, “We started this journey we embarked on in 2020 with 300 points and rose to 2 points in 600 years,” Soy said, “We include all our employees in the decision-making and planning process in the actions we will take, we listen to our entire ecosystem and make our plans accordingly. We have taken the necessary steps to ensure basic conditions for passenger satisfaction, employee health and environmental impacts. We aimed to develop a sustainable management model with the awareness that people are temporary and institutions are permanent. In this way, we sowed the seeds of a corporate system where even our grandchildren, who use the metro lines in Istanbul 50 years later, can reap the benefits. We have established a structure that develops and continues its development with the participation of the whole company, not a group.”
