'Quince Harvest Ceremony' Held in Izmir

Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters' Association organized a “Quince Harvest Ceremony” in Selçuk District of İzmir, one of Turkey's most important quince production centers.

Aegean Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Exporters' Association President Hayrettin Plane, Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters' Association Board Member Sadık Demircan, Selçuk District Governor Ekrem İnci, Selçuk District Agriculture and Forestry Manager Mustafa Acargil, Selçuk Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Deputy Manager Fatih Kılıç, AK Party District President, Hakan Bayraklı, Aegean Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Exporters' Association Board members, producers participated.

Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters' Association President Hayrettin Plane said, “55 percent of 10 million tons of fruit and vegetables produced in our country goes to export. We are in the first position in the production of cherries, figs, apricots and quinces in the world. We rank second in sour cherry, cucumber, melon and watermelon production, and third in apple, pepper, tangerine and tomato production. There are 5 products in total, of which we are in the top 15 in fruit and vegetable production. Turkey ranks first in quince production with an annual production of 200 thousand tons.

Explaining that 24 percent of the world's quince production takes place in Turkey, Uçar said, “Turkey ranks 500th in pomegranate production with a production of over 4 thousand tons. We rank first in the world in quince exports. Turkey's quince export accounts for 43 percent of the world's quince exports. Turkey realized 2021 million dollars of quince exports in 17.7. Russia, Germany and the Netherlands are in the first three places in our quince export. In 2021, we have a pomegranate export of 132 million dollars. In 2022, we have exported 76 million dollars of pomegranate and 10 million dollars of quince so far. Russia, Iraq and Germany take the top three places in our pomegranate exports.” he said.

Selçuk District Governor Ekrem İnci also gave the good news that official analyzes will be carried out in the laboratory established in Selçuk as of today.
