School Diabetes Program Education Platform Launched

Approximately 1 thousand students diagnosed with type 23 diabetes need support for blood glucose measurement and insulin therapy in the school environment. For this reason, the awareness of school administrators, teachers and employees about diabetes is of great importance.

Within the scope of the protocol signed between the Ministries of National Education and Health and the Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Association, the "Diabetes Program Education Platform at School" was prepared and opened to access for training and awareness raising activities on this subject.

New videos have been prepared for the platform, which aims to ensure that children with diabetes spend their time safely at school and to provide training to all school staff, especially teachers. In addition, documentaries and studies made so far that can be useful have been added to the platform.

On the platform, where a resource is created on how to act in an emergency and mandatory information, teachers can receive a "Diabetes Program Education Certificate at School" by completing their 1st, 2nd and 3rd level trainings.

The “Diabetes Program at School Education Platform” can be accessed at Okuldiyabet.meb.gov.tr.

Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer stated that everyone who visits the site, regardless of whether they have diabetes or not, has access to useful information, and said, “The school personnel who receive training from the platform acquire important information to protect the health of children with diabetes and to feel safe throughout their school life. In the first place, teachers and all school personnel with type 1 diabetes students will be provided to complete their training. In the next stage, we aim to obtain a participant certificate for anyone who successfully completes the training module in the Diabetes Program at School Education Platform prepared for teachers, school nurses or school personnel.” said.

Minister Ozer; invited all parents, teachers and school administrators to use the platform.
