In the program attended by the parents of the ABB Children's Activity Center, the fathers; it is aimed to realize their responsibilities in the care and development of their children and to develop appropriate attitudes, to establish mutual and close relations with their children, to spend time with their children, to interact with them, not to apply any kind of violence and to participate in the education processes of children.

Neslihan Uğraş, Manager of the Ottoman Children's Activity Center, who said that they carried out the Father Support Education program last year and received very positive feedback, said, “We have started our education program that will last approximately 13 weeks for the fathers of our children who are educated in our Child Activity Center. This program, which we carried out in our 4 centers last year, yielded such positive results that we started to do it in our newly opened centers this year. Our aim is to raise awareness of fathers, to bring out the importance and weight of children in their lives and the gems inside them once again. We are running our program together with AÇEV and we think we will get really positive results.”

AÇEV volunteer and educator Mustafa Makili talked about the training program that has been carried out in cooperation with ABB for the last 2 years:

“We have been running Father Support programs for about 26 years. We have been cooperating with ABB for the last 2 years. Last year, we were giving these trainings in 4 centers, and this year it has increased to 13 centers. We are trying to continue these activities voluntarily. We are actually reinforcing what our fathers knew. In the lessons, fathers tell their own stories and share their experiences. We talk and discuss together. After all, we are making evaluations here as if I did it right or I could have done better. We thank the Metropolitan Municipality and our Mayor Mansur Yavaş.”

TRAINING WILL CONTINUE FOR 13 WEEKS

In the Father Support Program hosted by ABB, lessons for fathers with children aged 3-6 and 7-11 are given by volunteer educators for 2 hours once a week.

In the trainings carried out to strengthen the mental and physical as well as social and emotional capacities of children; adult education methods such as group discussion, small group work, games, stories and case study are used.

Within the scope of the approximately 13-week program in which participatory and face-to-face training techniques are used; Trainings will be given on the role of the father in the development of the child, family attitudes, listening and explaining the child, developing positive behavior, the child's cognitive-social, school-friends and father, spending time with the child and playing, life difficulties and the father, the child's gaining responsibility and violence against women.

The fathers who participated in the free training said:

Izzettin Day: “When working life gets involved, children can feel the absence of their parents. I attended the training with the thought that I might be lacking and I think that I can lay a solid foundation. I think that raising conscious individuals will make Turkey stronger. The information I have received so far has added a little more knowledge to my knowledge and I think it will benefit my children.”

Semih Turkoglu: “I have a 3-year-old daughter and that's why I wanted to attend the trainings. I think it will be better for my child and myself. I realized that I needed to learn a few information about preparing my child for the future and I wanted to improve myself a little more. Generally, we apply what we learned from our mother and father while raising children. But society is changing and moving forward. At this point, in order not to fall behind, I think it would be good to get training on going to the upper stage of what we know, changing and updating.”
