A temporary desalination plant is operational at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS) construction site. 1.080 cubic meters of fresh water per day will be produced at the pump station of the facility, which will provide fresh water for construction and installation works.

At the facility, seawater will first be passed through a sieve system to eliminate large particles. It will then enter an ultrafiltration unit where colloids and other substances are effectively removed.

The main desalination process will take place in the Reverse Osmosis Unit, a special type of filtration that separates the dissolved ionic substances in the water. These minerals will then be returned to the water using dolomite filters. After these processes, the chlorinated water will be transferred to the storage tanks that have already been installed and put into operation by passing through a pump station.

Components such as pipelines, pumps and water treatment systems used in the construction of this facility, which was established at the Akkuyu NPP site, mainly consisted of Turkish-made components. The construction of the facility took about 5 months.

Sergey Butckikh, NGS First Deputy General Manager and Director of Construction Affairs, made the following statements on the subject: “Commissioning and commissioning of the desalination plant, construction and installation works at the Akkuyu NPP site, domestic needs and domestic water for fire safety needs during the construction of power units. an important step towards achieving The desalinated water will also be used to prepare chemically desalinated water at a private facility, while also being used to clean the open reactor.”

Construction and installation work at the Akkuyu NPP site continues at all main and ancillary facilities, including four power units, coastal hydraulic engineering structures, a power distribution system, administrative buildings, a training center and physical protection facilities of the future NPP.
