Yusufeli Dam Can Meet 750 Thousand TOGG's Electricity Needs

This place meets 2% of Turkey's hydroelectric capacity. It is very meaningful and important that a single dam meets 2% of our strength. In order to make the electricity produced easier to understand; It means meeting the electricity needs of Antalya, which has a population of 2,5 million and is Turkey's 5th largest city.

From fiber optic infrastructure to clean drinking water, from sewerage to water treatment systems, whatever the latest standards in a modern modern city you can think of, all of these have been brought here, to Yusufeli, its district and villages within the scope of the project. Dr. Regarding the Yusufeli Dam and HEPP, Vahit Kirişci said, “This place meets 2 percent of Turkey's hydroelectric capacity. It is very meaningful and important that a single dam meets 2% of our strength. It means meeting the electricity needs of Antalya, which has a population of 2,5 million and is Turkey's 5th largest city, so that the electricity produced is easier to understand.” said.

Minister Kirişci made inspections at Yusufeli Dam and HEPP, the construction of which was completed and will start to be retained with a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan tomorrow.

Making a statement after his examinations, Kirişci wished God's mercy to those who lost their lives in the attack by terrorist organization members in Gaziantep's Karkamış district, and a speedy recovery to the injured.

Reminding that there was an attack on a school, Kirişci said that such sad events and attacks are meaningful in order to show where the terrorist organization has come.

Stressing that they will witness history in Yusufeli, Kirişci said that they will participate in the impoundment ceremony of Turkey's highest dam and the world's 5th largest dam in its category.

Wishing that the dam will be beneficial for the nation and the country, Kirişci said, “May the electricity generated from the water to be kept here will turn into production and abundance in our country. Let our country increase its production, we need electricity for our industry, for our own needs in houses, just as our people need food after agricultural production. For electricity generation, these dams are meaningful for us, they are important.” he said.

Noting that the dams are expressed in terms of their installed power, Minister Kirişci continued his words as follows: “Yusufeli Dam has an installed power of 558 megawatts and an electricity generation capacity of 1,9 billion kilowatt-hours. Another pride of ours is the generation of electricity needed by 29 thousand of our TOGG, which we downloaded from the tape on October 750. Let our citizens visualize it as a hundred-story building. Such a magnificent work will be put into service tomorrow.”

Expressing that the Yusufeli Dam will almost be a safety valve for the dams on the Çoruh River, Kirişci said, “The successor Deriner Borçka Muratlı Artvin said that the current production of these four dams can produce 695 million kilowatt-hours more, that is, they can increase their electricity production capabilities by this amount thanks to Yusufeli. Let's point that out." said.

A dam that will also reduce flood-related effects

Noting that the sediment brought by the water will be kept in Yusufeli Dam, which will extend the economic life of other dams, Kirişci said, “If the water is not kept in place, it causes floods. Floods can also damage agricultural lands, damage settlements, and sometimes cause the loss of our people's lives. It is a dam that will also reduce the effects of flooding.” used the phrases.

Stressing that Yusufeli Dam is a dam where Turkish engineers, technicians and workers pour their sweat and mind from beginning to end, Kirişci said, “In this aspect, it is a magnificent work. A work we can all be proud of. We believe that our country will make a name for itself in the world with such mega projects. The contractor company will have proven itself with this work and will have gone a long way. The owner of this project is our State Hydraulic Works. We are an institution that is the apple of our eye, and here, as a nation, we must surrender the right of the State Hydraulic Works.” said.

Minister Kirişci stated that a total of 34 billion lira was spent and said: “Of course, this money is not just for the construction of the dam. For example, 110 kilometers of roads were built. 110 km of this 69,2 km road was built as a state provincial road, and a 40 km part was built as a village road. It would be beneficial for us to include the money spent for these roads and tunnels. Throughout the history of the Republic, the tunnel length, which was only 2002 kilometers until 50, is 62 kilometers only in this dam in Turkey. So, even this alone, I think it would be appropriate in terms of expressing how meaningful, how important, how great an engineering marvel this dam is.”

Here, both the center of the district and its villages were not victimized.

Expressing that this project requires the transfer of the settlement to another place, Kirişci emphasized that in this context, both the center of the district and its villages were not victimized, and that a settlement was built at the highest standard in every conceivable area, very very comfortable for the citizens.

Kirişci said, “Exactly 3 thousand 205 houses, 507 of which belong to the villages, and the rest will be the residences of our citizens in the district center. Apart from these residences, 334 workplaces were built. Of these, 10 were in the villages and 324 of them became workplaces in the center of the district we mentioned. I hope our citizens will live comfortably here. When they go out to their balconies, they will see a deep blue facade, so to speak, with the flooding of this dam, the sky is blue, the dam itself is blue, and when they look left and right, they will see green, a magnificent view will be created. used the phrases.

Pointing out that the project is environmentally friendly, Kirişci said: “We don't just move the houses, we took 800 thousand cubic meters of fertile land within the dam's own area and moved it as agricultural land to the settlement area, which was 750 decares before, but which we increased to 1535 decares in our latest work. 800 thousand cubic meters, I underline this. There were 5 thousand 844 olive, mulberry and other trees here. Those trees were taken from their places with the joint work of our State Hydraulic Works and the General Directorate of Forestry, and they were moved back to that new settlement, a 1535-decare settlement. 14 thousand 250 new trees were planted. A total of 72 thousand 92 trees have been planted, with more than 344 thousand saplings to be planted again, and these will now be rising towards the sky and will add greenery to the greenery of this place. From fiber optic infrastructure to clean drinking water, from sewerage to water treatment systems, everything you can think of in a modern modern city with the latest standards has been brought here to Yusufeli, its district and villages within the scope of the project.”

Kirişci shared the following information regarding the process after the impoundment: “The villages of Yeniköy and Irmakyani here will be under water in 9 days. Those who want to see it can see the final version in this 9-day period. Hopefully, at the end of 69 days, the district center will be under water due to water retention. This will take 309 days in total. It's quite a long process. We will have a waiting period of 90 days, and after that, hopefully, trial production and main production related to our electricity generation will be started. Our estimated calendar is May 29, 2023. We wish good luck to our Yusufeli Dam and HEPP and our new settlement Yusufeli, our country and all our beloved nation.”

Minister Vahit Kirişci then went to the new settlement in Yusufeli and made investigations there and received information from the authorities.
