Adil Karaismailoğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, said in his speech at the 21st Century Municipalism Local Governments Summit, “Until 2053, the number of provinces connected by high-speed trains will increase from 8 to 52”.

Pointing out the importance of making plans in municipality and preparing for the future, Karaismailoğlu explained the change in transportation, infrastructure, logistics and informatics in the last 20 years, and said that they are planning the future as a Ministry.

“We have to ensure maximum profit with the expenditures we make. Karaismailoğlu stated that the number of vehicles, which was 2002 million in 8,6, increased to 26 million, and that they experienced much less traffic congestion thanks to the planning made. Pointing out that Turkey lags behind Europe and the USA in vehicle ownership, Karaismailoğlu noted that this figure will increase by 2050, and that they continue to make master plans to be prepared for the said increase.

SMART TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS WILL BECOME MORE IMPORTANT

Emphasizing that measures to reduce carbon emissions will never be on their agenda, and that zero emission and emission reduction studies are very important, Karaismailoğlu noted that smart transportation systems will gain more importance. Pointing out that transportation is the second sector that causes air pollution with 16,2% among other sectors, Karaismailoğlu shared his predictions about the expected increase in electric vehicles, shared transportation models and electric public transportation models.

BICYCLE AND SCOOTER USE MUST BE ENCOURAGED

Karaismailoğlu stated that the use of bicycles and scooters in short distances should be encouraged and said, “It is necessary to establish a quality, safe and economical public transportation system. Otherwise, these cities will become uninhabitable. There are currently 270 kilometers of rail system lines in Istanbul. If not, how would citizens meet their transportation needs? They would turn to individual journeys and the traffic would become unbearable,” he said.

671 THOUSAND PEOPLE USED MARMARAY IN ONE DAY

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoğlu pointed out the transportation opportunities between the two sides of Istanbul and reminded the criticisms of the 1973 July Martyrs Bridge, which was opened in 15, and the transportation projects made after that. Karaismailoğlu said, “Today, 15 thousand vehicles pass through the 200 July Martyrs Bridge daily. State planning is required. Because he sees the developments in front of him. The need for transportation is increasing here. As a state, we need to anticipate it and not have any problems in the future.” said.

Noting that 240 thousand vehicles use the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge and 120 thousand vehicles use the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge daily, Karaismailoğlu said that an average of 60 thousand vehicles pass through the Eurasia Tunnel per day. Stating that 671 thousand citizens used Marmaray in one day last week, Karaismailoğlu stated that thanks to these services, the transportation opportunities and life of the citizens were facilitated.

WE HAVE ENTERED A RAILWAY INVESTMENT PERIOD

Noting that they have invested 20 billion dollars in transportation and communication in the last 183,6 years, Karaismailoğlu gave information about the investments made in different fields of transportation services. Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu said, “Thanks to our investments in highways, we save 1 billion liters of fuel, we have saved 7 billion hours of time per year. Put these aside, thanks to our investments, traffic accidents have decreased by 80 percent. Thanks to planned investments, we save the lives of 9 citizens every year.”

Stating that they are currently operating a 13 thousand 100-kilometer railway, Karaismailoğlu said that they entered a railway-based investment period until 2053. Emphasizing that they have increased the number of passengers in the airline from 30 million to 210 million, Karaismailoğlu stated that the number of airports has reached 57, and that they will increase the number of airports to 61 with the ongoing construction. Referring to the positive effect of transportation investments on national income, employment and production, Karaismailoğlu said that they have made all the plans until 2053 and set big goals.

DIVIDED ROAD LENGTH WILL INCREASED TO 38 THOUSAND KILOMETER

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoğlu stated that the length of the divided road will be increased to 38 thousand kilometers, the railway network will be increased to 28 thousand 600 kilometers, and the number of ports will be increased to 255, and continued his words as follows:

“With an investment of 2053 billion dollars until 198, we will contribute 1 trillion dollars to national income and 2 trillion dollars to production. We will contribute to employment of 28 million people. The number of provinces with high-speed trains will increase to 52. Likewise, the number of railway passengers will increase from 19,5 million to 270 million annually. Thanks to our mobility, we will increase the number of passengers in the airline from 210 million to 344 million. We have made our plans to increase the amount of freight we carry by rail from 38 million tons to 448 million tons.”

TWO METRO LINES TO BE OPENED IN ISTANBUL BEFORE THE YEAR IS END

Reminding that they opened Gaziray, which is 25,5 kilometers long and has 16 stations, on the weekend, Karaismailoğlu said, “With this project, there is also a high-speed train line. With our high-speed train lines under construction today, our citizens, who take the high-speed train from Kapikule in the next 4 years, are working uninterruptedly to Istanbul, Ankara, Konya, Karaman, Mersin and Gaziantep. In the next 4 years, we will have completed this uninterrupted high-speed railway network.”

WE COME TO THE LAST STAGE OF AKM-GAR-KIZILAY METRO

Stating that they have an important investment in Ankara, Karaismailoğlu said, “We have now reached the final stage in the AKM-Gar-Kızılay metro. In the first months of 2023, we will open the AKM-Gar-Kızılay metro and meet an important need in Ankara.” Karaismailoğlu stated that the Istanbul Airport-Kağıthane stage of the Istanbul Airport-Zincirlikuyu metro line will be opened at the end of this month or at the beginning of December, and that independent organizations are currently conducting tests to obtain a signaling certificate.

Stating that Başakşehir Çam and Sakura Hospital-Kayaşehir line will be opened after him, Karaismailoğlu said that the Ministry completed the line in 26 months after taking over this place, and that this place will be put into service before the end of the year.
