Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer reminded that they did not leave schools without a library in Turkey at the end of last year within the scope of the Project Without Libraries, and noted that they have already exceeded the target of 100 million books at the end of the year and reached 103 million 174 thousand 561 books in schools.
Minister Özer reminded that they started the No Schools Without Libraries Project across the country on October 26, 2021, under the auspices of President Erdoğan's wife, Emine Erdoğan, in order to reduce the differences in opportunities between schools and to ensure equality of opportunity, and said, By completing the construction of the new library, we did not leave any of our schools in Turkey without a library. Within the scope of this project; Since the beginning of the project, we have used an appropriation of 31 million TL in order to establish a library in all our schools that do not have a library, to give the existing libraries a modern look, to enrich and strengthen their contents.” said.
260 percent increase in the number of books
Pointing out that there were 28 million 677 thousand books in school libraries throughout the country before the project, Minister Özer said, “We aimed to increase the number of books in our schools to 2022 million by the end of 100. As in our other projects, we are happy to reach our goal early in this project. As of today, the number of books in our school libraries has increased by 260 percent, exceeding the number of 103 million books. Thus, it was ensured that our children met with more quality works.” made its assessment.
Özer stated that they will continue to establish libraries in the new schools planned to be opened in this context, to give the existing school libraries a modern look and to enrich their contents, and gave the following information about the number of books owned by the schools as an education level: “The number of books owned by the libraries in our kindergartens is 3 million 355 thousand 113. ; The number of books in our primary education libraries is 68 million 985 thousand 198; While the number of books in our secondary education libraries is 30 million 834 thousand 250, the total number of books has reached 103 million 174 thousand 561. Minister Özer also stated that 1.325 "Recycling Libraries" were built within the scope of the Zero Waste Project in order to raise environmental awareness and raise awareness about recycling.
