Speaking at the opening, Deputy Chairman Mustafa Özuslu emphasized that labor is the highest value and said, “Nothing of ours is more important and urgent than human life. First of all, the right to work in a safe work environment should be evaluated within the scope of basic human rights. We, as Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, in all our activities, Tunç SoyerUnder the motto of 'Another life is possible', we take the motto 'Another job security is possible' as our guide, and we try to do our part in this matter with the people related to the relevant units, we give all our attention to this. We prioritize the health of our employees above all else and we continue to work with this vision resolutely.”

Drawing attention to mine disasters, Mustafa Özuslu said, “When the elements of occupational safety are not fully fulfilled, we encounter disasters and tragedies. In this area, government, ministries, institutions, local administrations, unions, chambers, employers etc. Everyone has important duties. There can be no comparison of human life with cost, and it should not be. We are people who believe that labor is the highest value. If man creates this labor, which man creates. If we agree that this is a supreme value in terms of value, then we should create the lives of the people who created it, their business opportunities and business areas as necessary. In other words, the worker in the canal, the worker in the fire, the worker in the mine may be different, but we must act by knowing that they all have occupational health and safety standards and by fulfilling these standards at the highest level and avoiding any cost in this. We must provide those opportunities so that those souls, the people who produce that labor, are in the best, healthiest environment and conditions where they can produce the most efficient service. For three days, you, who are experts in the subject, will talk about these issues and the views and outputs that will be formed here will shed light on us. We will continue to work to create a much healthier and safer work environment with your valuable contributions by examining the current situation in depth and offering solutions.”

With the symposium, it is aimed to share experience and knowledge by presenting occupational health and safety practices, legislation and standards, practical problems, solution suggestions and good practice examples in our country and especially in public and local governments.
