Lebon Patisserie, one of the historical shops of Beyoğlu Istiklal Street, was founded in 1810 by Edouard Lebon in Beyoğlu. The naming rights of the patisserie were purchased in 1985 by Abdurrahman Cengiz and Şakir Ekinci.
WHEN WAS THE LEBON PASTRY OPEN?
Historical Lebon Patisserie was founded in 1810 by Edouard Lebon. After Lebon's death in 1937, his assistant Kostas Litopoulos took over the management of the patisserie. In 1985, he continued his service life by obtaining the name rights by Şakir Ekinci and Abdurrahman Cengiz. Patisserie hosted many literary figures such as Ziya Pasha and Namık Kemal.
Cengiz said, “Lebon opens his patisserie in Beyoğlu in 1810. When the place where it first opened in the 1940s was bought, Lebon also moved to a different building on Istiklal Street. It was closed in 1972. I struggled for 2 years to get the Lebon brand. I finally got the patent in 1985. For nearly 38 years, I have tried to raise this brand to a high level. My wish was for the brand to continue, but it did not happen” and told the story of the patisserie.
WHY WAS THE LEBON PASTRY CLOSED?
Abdurrahman Cengiz, one of the partners of the patisserie, said that their rent, which was 42 thousand 500 liras, increased to 10 thousand dollars, and they closed the patisserie on 29 October because they could not pay this price.
The lease agreement dispute between Lebon Patisserie and the business owners was brought to the court, and the lawsuits were concluded against the business owners.
