Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyerattended the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference held online in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which participated in the conference in partnership with ICLEI, organized a panel titled “Circular Agriculture for Climate Emergency” at ICLEI's Local Governments and Municipalities-LGMA Multi-Level Action Pavilion. Speaking at the panel moderated by ICLEI Global Advocacy Director Yunus Arıkan, President Tunç SoyerHe mentioned the concept of cyclical culture, which is the approach of the Metropolitan Municipality, saying, “We need new principles and approaches to achieve a life strategy that is compatible with our planet.” Soyer said, “It is never enough to act alone. Harmony between our actions is as important as harmony with nature” and underlined that it is time to be in unity and take action. Soyer concluded his words as follows: “I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to our new initiative that we developed at the Arlem General Assembly held in Izmir earlier this week. This is the Alliance of Cities with Circular Cultures.”

Sameh Wahba, the World Bank's Europe and Central Asia Regional Director for Sustainable Development, emphasized that there are serious problems in the agriculture and food system and said, "With circular agriculture, we can optimize our resources, minimize our waste and reduce our carbon footprint." Wahba also stated that they support Turkey in terms of the modernization of irrigation systems and the cyclical nature of water and said, “The global climate crisis can only be solved through effective cooperation. Gianpiero Nacci, Director of Sustainable Business and Infrastructure at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, said that it is necessary to create a platform where all sectors, stakeholders and decision makers will come together to identify problems related to sustainable food systems. Martin Frick, Director of the Global Office of the United Nations World Food Program Berlin, said: “There have been 27 summits in the field of climate by the UN, but after 27 summits, food and agriculture have become a central issue. For a long time, we focused on the energy and transportation sector and neglected the food systems, but we can no longer neglect this sector. While 2019 million people experienced acute hunger in 135, this number has increased to 276 million today.
Climate Youth Negotiators Program, UN Food Systems Champions Network Member, Marie-Claire Graf expressed her wishes that cooperation and stakeholders who take responsibility will increase thanks to the impact created at the summit.
