EU Delegation Examined Samsun Sivas Kalın Railway Line

The Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Turkey Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut and the delegation consisting of the ambassadors with him made inspections on the Samsun-Sivas Kalın Railway Line, the modernization of which was completed a while ago.

Meyer-Landrut and the accompanying delegation came to Çukurbük Station within the scope of the examinations on the Samsun-Sivas Kalın railway line, which was carried out with the grant support of the EU Transport Sectoral Operational Program. Here, wearing the dispatcher's cap, Meyer-Landrut commanded the driver with the disk, in which the command to "move" or "stop" was given. Meyer-Landrut then made a train journey between Kavak and Samsun. During the journey, Meyer-Landrut also went to the section where the train was commanded and received information from the mechanic Süleyman Önal.

Meyer-Landrut, in a statement to the journalists at Samsun Train Station, said that they, as the EU, are very proud to be a part of the Samsun-Sivas Kalın railway line project. Stating that there are other projects in this direction, Meyer-Landrut said, “Trains are very important in terms of green transformation. Because they reduce carbon emissions. The transportation sector is the sector with the highest increase in carbon emissions. So they play a really important role in reducing these emissions when trains are used.” said.

Meyer-Landrut explained that with the modernization of the line in question, a great increase in capacity has taken place and the capacity has increased from 21 trains to 54 trains per day, and continued as follows: “Comfort, safety, as well as the new signaling system are positive contributions of modernization and this project. Our cooperation in the field of transportation is a really important factor in terms of reducing the environment and carbon dioxide emissions, such projects. We finished one of these big projects here, but the implementation of another project continues. It is the railway line between the Istanbul-Bulgaria border. At the same time, there are projects for the construction and rehabilitation of trains. His budget is also quite high. Transportation is a very important factor of cooperation between the European Union and Turkey.”

Meyer-Landrut was accompanied by UNICEF Turkey Deputy Representative Paolo Marchi, ambassadors and charge d'affaires, as well as TCDD Modernization Department Head Selim Bolat and TCDD 4th Regional Manager Hasan Arı.
