Izmir-Thessaloniki ferry services will start tomorrow (Monday, October 10) as a result of the heavy work that Izmir Chamber of Commerce spent before the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. The first voyage will be made by the Smyrna di Levante ferry belonging to Levante Ferries company from Thessaloniki to İzmir at 17.00 tomorrow. Expressing that this expedition, which will connect the two sides of the Aegean, is very important for the trade of our country, İzmir Chamber of Commerce Chairman Mahmut Özgener emphasized that they can develop an integrated transportation from İzmir to Thessaloniki by sea and to Europe via Thessaloniki.

IT WAS OFFICIAL IN 2016

The “ferry” work carried out by the Izmir Chamber of Commerce (IZTO) together with the stakeholders of the city has concluded successfully. The countdown has begun for the long-awaited Thessaloniki-Izmir ferry services.

The process, which became official in 2016 before the two states, but was interrupted later, came to the final stage with the meeting held at the Izmir Chamber of Commerce on April 7, 2022.

ALL STAKEHOLDERS MEET AT IZTO

At the meeting hosted by İZTO Chairman of the Board Mahmut Özgener, Greek İzmir Consul General Despina Balkiza, Chamber of Shipping Chairman Yusuf Öztürk, İZTO Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors Cemal Elmasoğlu, Head of Maritime Trade Development Department of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, General Directorate of Maritime Levent Akbaba and İzmir Port President Ünal Hakan Atalan, TCDD İzmir Port Operations Manager Serdar Görür and General Directorate Specialist Osman Gürbüz and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure General Directorate of Maritime experts came together and discussed all the issues for the start of the line.

After the meeting, all the necessary procedures for the start of the flights were completed. The journeys to be organized by the Greece-based Levante Ferries company with the Smyrna di Levante ferry will start tomorrow (Monday, October 10) at 17.00 with the service to Izmir from Thessaloniki. The ferry will sail from Thessaloniki to Izmir on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 19.00, and on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 19.00 from Izmir to Thessaloniki. The flights are expected to take 12-13 hours.

ÖZGENER: “WE CAN DEVELOP AN INTEGRATED TRANSPORTATION REACHING EUROPE”

Expressing that this line should not be considered only as a Greek line, İzmir Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the Board Mahmut Özgener said, “We may have an increasing cooperation with trade, triggered by tourism, with the start of sea voyages. We can improve transportation,” he said.

Emphasizing that as the Izmir Chamber of Commerce, they are also working on the opening of Izmir Alsancak Port for Ro-Ro services, Özgener continued his words as follows: “As a result of the intensive efforts of our Chamber, with the valuable contributions of our Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Ro-Ro services started again in February 2021 from Izmir Alsancak Port. . In addition, new Ro-Ro voyages from Izmir - Alsancak Port to the Spanish port of Teragona have started with our support. We are happy to contribute to both our city and our country with these lobbying activities. We will continue our work”
