The Heart of Cinema Will Beat in Bursa

The Korkut Ata Turkish World Film Festival, which was held for the second time this year with the support of many different institutions and organizations, especially the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, will be hosted by Bursa, the 1 Turkish World Culture Capital, between 5-2022 November.

Organized for the second time this year under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 'Korkut Ata Turkish World Film Festival' will once again bring together many professional filmmakers and cultural figures from the Turkish Republic and its communities in Turkey. The second of the festival, the first of which was held in Istanbul, will be held in Bursa, the Cultural Capital of the Turkish World in 2022, between 1-5 November. Within the scope of the festival, a total of 22 industry representatives, 43 from Azerbaijan, 23 from Uzbekistan, 21 from Kyrgyzstan, 5 from Kazakhstan, 17 from Turkmenistan and 157 from autonomous republics, will be in Bursa. Approximately 200 names, consisting of important producers, directors, screenwriters and actors of the Turkish cinema industry, will also participate in the festival. In addition, 34 press members from Turkish geography will follow the event for 5 days.

At the opening of the festival, which will start on November 1 at the Atatürk Congress Cultural Center, the film directed by Sadyk Sher-Niyaz and depicting the life of the longest reigning Kyrgyz Turkish ruler Kurmancan Datka will be screened. In the festival, which will also host the "Uzbek Cinema Day" on November 4, hosted by Uzbekistan, the concert of "Fikret Amirov's 100th Anniversary and the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World Bursa" will be held in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan and the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality.

A total of 10 films, 14 of which are participating in the 'feature-length fictional film' competition, and 24 in the 'documentary film' competition organized within the scope of the festival. A total of 3 awards, including 5 documentary awards, 8 feature-length fiction awards, 1 contributions to Turkish culture and 17 TURKSOY award, will find their owners at the awards night. In addition to the films participating in the competition, a total of 28 films with 52 films will be presented to the audience of Bursa free of charge for 5 days at Atatürk Congress Culture Center, Tayyare Culture Center, Anatolium Shopping Center and Uludağ University.

The Ministers of Culture of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan will attend the awards night to be held on November 5 at the invitation of the Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy. In addition, the 39th Term Meeting of the Permanent Council of Culture Ministers of TÜRSOY will be held on November 5, simultaneously with the festival.

Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş said that Bursa is the ancient city where the foundations of the greatest civilization this geography has ever seen were laid and its spirit was shaped. President Alinur Aktaş stated that Bursa is the most beautiful city of all times, the place where that magnificent dream that starts from Asia and the Middle East and extends to the depths of Europe has come true and was unlocked, and said, “We are happy to be holding the Korkut Ata Turkish World Film Festival in our city. we are living. Since the day Bursa was entrusted with the Cultural Capital of the Turkish World, it has brought together very important events and activities with the people of Bursa. Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Ahmet Misbah Demircan said that as a ministry, they are working to keep the tangible and intangible cultural heritage alive, protect and transfer it to future generations. Explaining that art has an important role in spreading this heritage, Deputy Minister Demircan stated that cinema, as the 7th art, is a new, contemporary and effective art branch. Expressing that cinema is the most important argument found after the writing in the spread of culture, Demircan said, “While the importance of cinema is evident, we started the 'Ata Korkut Film Festival' in order to better explain and understand Turkish-Islamic culture with brother countries in the Turkish world. We set out to ensure cultural rapprochement. Within the scope of the festival, we aimed to lay the groundwork for co-productions, to reward new films within the scope of the competition, and to bring together the ministers of the Turkic republics. We will organize the second festival in Bursa, the Cultural Capital of the Turkish World, and we will hold the third festival in Shusha, Azerbaijan. With these summits, we will lay the groundwork for the transformation of our common heritage into joint productions.”

Bursa Governor Yakup Canbolat said that Bursa, the Cultural Capital of the Turkish World in 2022, hosted many different events 'after taking over the title'. Stating that the common mind and energy of the Turkish world met in Bursa, Canbolat said, “With the Korkut Ata Film Festival held last year, important messages were given to the whole world. The Turkish world met with this festival in a cultural sense and protected its cultural values. It is a source of pride for us that the festival is held in Bursa. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the organization of the festival in Bursa. The festival will contribute to the brotherhood and sense of unity among Turks.”

Also at the meeting, Uludag University Rector Prof. Dr. A. Saim Guide, Director General of Cinema of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Erkin Yılmaz, Deputy Secretary General of TURKSOY Bilal Çakıcı, İhsan Kabil on behalf of non-governmental organizations and Sedat Sağırkaya on behalf of TRT spoke about the festival.
