The frogmen, who work in Yalova and the surrounding provinces within the body of the General Directorate of Security, intervene in cases in many areas, especially in the deep waters of the Marmara Sea.

Sea Port Branch Directorate teams affiliated to Yalova Police Department take part in cases such as drowning, getting lost in water, smuggling, poaching and illuminating crimes.

The frogmen, who selflessly take part in areas such as the sea, pond, creek, and flood and overflow disasters, sometimes save lives, and sometimes find and remove the crime tools thrown into the water to cover up the crimes committed.

Deputy Branch Manager, Commissioner Gökhan Çağlardere, who is part of the diver team, said that they provide service with 22 personnel, including frogman, seamen, security, passport and administrative staff.

Stating that Yalova is of great importance for the maritime police with its Altınova Shipyards Region, Ro-Ro Sea Border Gate, Osmangazi Bridge, as well as its districts and beaches, whose density increases in summer due to tourism, Çağlardere continued his words as follows:

“We have a patrol boat. It has been specially designed for our friends and our needs. We have a boat with additional features we need in the service, such as our armed platform, thermal camera, underwater imaging system, and we also have different operational boats, but we take our patrol boat to missions that require longer periods of waiting and more research. We try to get results by sending our smaller boats, which are faster, to emergencies that result in a few minutes, such as drowning. We have a domestic underwater robot that can dive to a depth of 200 meters. With the arm of our robot, we can grab the crime weapon, an inanimate body or any material we are looking for and lift it up. When human power is not enough, we continue this service with robots. Besides, we have an electronic life buoy.”

Çağlardere explained that they work in the Marmara Sea as well as inland waters, and they intervene in cases such as throwing a crime weapon or drowning with special vehicles and equipment.

Explaining that they work not only in the cases in Yalova, but also in the surrounding provinces, Çağlardere said, “We do our job with love. In fact, the duty of the police is always thought to be on land, but the Blue Homeland is also a part of our land. With this awareness, we are trying to provide this service in the same way at sea as we do on land. Every incident at sea, every judicial matter is our duty. Our main goal is to ensure security in the Blue Homeland.” said.

It Is Not Possible To Do This Job Without Loving It

The frogman Eyüp Esen, on the other hand, stated that he has completed 30 years in the profession and has been involved in illuminating many events.

Esen, describing the work they did after the conflict between the two groups on the Bebek coast in Istanbul in 1996, said, “We dived to a depth of 26 meters in search of two weapons that were said to have been thrown into the sea. We found these weapons and put them in an evidence bag to preserve the traces on them. While we were going to the exit, we noticed a third weapon that was not mentioned to us. Upon the examination of that evidence, the existence of a third group in the incident emerged. The investigation was deepened and the incident was clarified and all the accused were caught.” he said.

Ömer Arbağ, who has 10 years of experience in diving, said that he loved the sea and had dived before.

Explaining that when he joined the organization, he chose the sea and passed the exams, Arbağ said, “It is not possible to do this job without loving it. You encounter funerals, you are busy with various physical difficulties and tasks, but your love for this job allows you to overcome it.” used the phrases.

Yılmaz Aktaş stated that he has been working as a frogman for 23 years.

Expressing that he was a part of the rescue team in the flood disaster in Kastamonu last year, Aktaş said: “The entrance of an apartment building was covered with sand, mud and trees up to the first floor. We could hear people's voices for help from behind the wall. We helped to rescue dozens of people by breaking the wall with hammers and sledgehammers. It was an incredibly happy moment. We were also informed that a house in the basement floor of Ankara was flooded due to flooding. The interior of the house was completely under water. We dived in and got the family out of there. Unfortunately, we have removed many corpses in our professional life, but the happiness of saving alive is very nice.”

Touching the Life of a Person in Distress is Priceless

The only female police officer of the branch, Yasemin Türk Kırmaç, stated that she proudly pursues this profession, which she started by fulfilling her childhood dream.

Explaining that there are days when they work hard, Kırmaç said: “It is a job to be done with the love of the country and the flag. I think people's hardest moment is in the water. It is invaluable to me to touch the life of a person in need and to be a branch that will extend it to him.”
