Metro Istanbul, one of the affiliates of IMM, and the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB), undersigned an important project for Istanbul tourism. It has become easier for tourists who come to Istanbul by cruise to reach the sights. In project scope Kabataş The “Galataport-Beyazit Touristic Tram”, which will depart from a special stop between the 1nd and Tophane stations, will carry cruise passengers to the Historic Peninsula. The flights to be implemented on the TXNUMX line will not affect the comfort of other passengers.

Metro Istanbul, one of the subsidiaries of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), is starting a project with TÜRSAB, which will add value to Istanbul's cruise tourism and breathe life into urban transportation. The “Galataport-Beyazit Touristic Tram” is launched, which will carry the tourists who come to Istanbul Galataport Port by cruise ships and who have difficulty in reaching the Historic Peninsula due to heavy traffic, to the region. Signatures for the project were signed at a ceremony attended by Metro Istanbul General Manager Özgür Soy and TÜRSAB President Firuz B. Bağlıkaya.

“A PROJECT CREATING GREAT VALUE”

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ozgur Soy, General Manager of Metro Istanbul, said, “The project we signed today was a project that created great value in terms of cost-benefit by spending the public's resources at a minimum. It has been a topic that has been talked about for years that cruise tourism, which has great benefits for the country, the city and tourism, should be further developed in Istanbul, and we are doing it today. It is extremely important for tourists to reach the Historic Peninsula and visit the most valuable, historical and touristic places of Istanbul.”

THE COMFORT OF OUR PASSENGERS WILL NOT BE AFFECTED

Project T1 KabataşStating that it will come to life by using the Bağcılar Tram Line, Soy said, “We will provide a special service to cruise passengers using our existing line between 09.00-16.00, when our own passengers are not busy, so that the comfort of other passengers will not be affected. We will transport tourists from Galataport region to Sultanahmet and Beyazıt in 17 minutes, much faster than road transportation, regardless of traffic.”

Sharing the information that tram tickets will be sold by TÜRSAB member agencies through the interface developed by TÜRSAB and Metro Istanbul, Soy added that the line will become operational in 2023.

BAĞLIKAYA: TOURISTS WILL SAVE TIME

Speaking at the signing ceremony held at TÜRSAB Headquarters, TÜRSAB President Firuz B. Bağlıkaya stated that they signed a project that would solve the problem without adding additional burden to Istanbul traffic and said:

“As in all major cities, there is a very serious traffic density in the Historic Peninsula in normal operation… It was a situation like visiting historical places in a hurry. Within the framework of this project developed with Metro Istanbul, only tourists will use the tram that will depart from the port and go to the Historic Peninsula. The tram, which will be operated by Metro Istanbul, will have a special stop at the cruise port and will bring tourists to and from the Historic Peninsula. Therefore, according to our calculations, tourists will gain more than an hour. On the other hand, with this project, we have taken a step that will protect the historical heritage in the region.”
