Saudi Arabia, which plans to build a year-round winter sports complex in the desert by establishing the megacity of the future worth 500 billion dollars, has been selected as the host for the 2029 Asian Winter Games.

"The mountains and deserts of Saudi Arabia will soon become the playground of winter sports," the Asian Olympic Council said in a statement.

It was reported that the decision was taken unanimously as a result of the voting held during the meeting held in Punom Pen, Cambodia. With the victory of the megacity called NEOM, it will be the first time a West Asian country will host this sporting event.

Trojena region, one of the areas where the NEOM project will take place, was chosen to host the Asian Winter Games. On the project's website, it is stated that the temperature in this region drops below zero and the average temperature throughout the year is 10 degrees lower than the country's average.

“Trojena will create a winter environment in the heart of the desert, with the infrastructure suitable for an unprecedented Winter Games in the world,” explained Nadhmi al-Nasr, Executive Director of the NEOM project.
