Having the title of the first city from Turkey to be selected to the European Cycling Route Network (EuroVelo), İzmir was entitled to be included in the short list after the first evaluation to host the EuroVelo Bicycle Tourism Conference to be held in October 2023. EuroVelo officials, who started the actual evaluation process, organized an expedition to Izmir. The city that is entitled to host the conference will be announced in November.
In İzmir, which is the first city from Turkey to be selected for the European Cycling Route Network (EuroVelo), efforts to develop bicycle tourism continue. Izmir has been shortlisted after the first evaluation to host the EuroVelo Bicycle Tourism Conference to be held in October 2023.
With the authorization of the European Cyclists Federation (ECF), EuroVelo Manager Agathe Daudibon and EuroVelo and Projects Responsible Marta Orihuel came to İzmir for exploration during the main evaluation process. Within the scope of the visit, accompanied by the officials of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Sustainable Transportation Planning Directorate, Turkey Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA), Provincial Culture and Tourism Directorate and EuroVelo Turkey National Coordinatorship, bicycle technical tours were organized between Bostanlı Pier-Natural Life Park and Üçkuyular Pier-Cumhuriyet Square. . Activity area investigations were carried out in İnciraltı City Forest, Historical Gas Factory, Agora Ancient City, Swisshotel, Olivelo Living Park area and Teos Ancient City.
The result will be known in November.
After the technical visits, a joint evaluation meeting was held with all stakeholders in İzmir. The EuroVelo audit team will report their evaluations and present them to the ECF management by the end of October. After the evaluation of the ECF Board of Directors and the voting in November, the city where the EuroVelo and Bicycle Tourism Conference will be held will be announced.
An application was made to the European Cyclists Federation (ECF) with the joint file prepared by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, İzmir Governorship, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, Turkey Tourism Development Agency (TGA) and EuroVelo Turkey National Coordinatorship for the organization to be held in İzmir.
