The Journal of Regional Development, which will bring an academic view to regional development policies, is counting the days. Turkish and English articles will be published in the peer-reviewed journal, which will start publication in January. A meeting was held at METU to promote the magazine. Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank, who attended the meeting, said, “Our journal will serve as a reference source for our researchers working or considering working in the field of regional development.” said.

A ceremony was held at METU Culture and Congress Center to promote the Regional Development Magazine. The ceremony was attended by Minister Varank, General Manager of Development Agencies Barış Yeniceri, METU Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Verşan Kök, Rector of Ankara University Prof. Dr. Necdet Ünüvar, TSE President Mahmut Sami Şahin, Turkish Space Agency President Serdar Hüseyin Yıldırım and many academicians attended.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Varank said:

TOTALLY DEVELOPED TURKEY

When the Ministry of Industry and Technology is mentioned, some may still think of only the wheels turning in the industry, R&D and design activities, and studies in the field of space. However, our ministry has become the ministry that undertakes the coordination of the regional development policy of our country together with the presidential government system. We have a motto to distribute the wealth we have achieved across our country fairly, to improve the competitiveness of our provinces and districts, and to reduce the development gap between regions: Totally Developed Turkey.

THE BRIDGE WILL WORK

In the field of regional development, we have a very busy work both at the table and in the field. As the ministry, we wish to share and increase the experience we have gained in the field of regional development, and to open new doors of cooperation by strengthening the communication between the stakeholders. In this sense, we are launching the Journal of Regional Development, which has brought us together today, to act as a bridge between the public and the academic world.

WE WILL IMPROVE THE QUALITY

Our journal will serve as a reference source for our researchers working or considering working in the field of regional development. The journal will include articles on different economic, social and environmental dimensions of regional development. We believe that in this way, we will increase the number and quality of scientific studies in the field of regional development. At this time, the articles began to be collected. It plans to publish the first issue in January. I believe it will do a good job.

I believe that the world of academia will reveal different studies. Our journal will fill an important gap in the field of research. I would especially like to point out that we expect your support both in the announcement of the Journal of Regional Development and in encouraging our researchers to publish. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all my teammates, especially our esteemed professors, who have been with us since the day the idea of ​​the magazine was born.

We are promoting the magazine at METU. I would also like to thank METU for this nice hosting. This hall was newly built when I was a student. It is a pleasure for us to attend such a beautiful event of the Ministry of Industry and Technology in this hall.

Regional Development Journal Advisory Board Member Prof. Dr. In her speech, Neşe Kumral stated that the magazine will fill an important gap in the literature and noted that it will be a source of inspiration for academicians who want to work in this field. Stating that digitalization and automation in production are among the most important trends in the post-pandemic period in the latest reports of the United Nations, Prof. Kumral stated that with the global climate crisis and the fact that China has become an important region in industrial production, it is necessary to update industrial policies.

AN IMPORTANT FUNCTION WILL BE TAKEN

The General Manager of Development Agencies, Barış Yeniceri, said that they are excited to add another important ring to their activities in the field of regional development and said that the magazine will be a permanent publication that will be respected not only in the national arena but also in the international arena. Emphasizing that they will work in close cooperation with the academic world in the light of scientific studies, General Manager Yeniceri said, “In this respect, the Journal of Regional Development will assume an important function.” said.

PUBLIC ACADEMY COLLABORATION PANEL

After the introductory meeting, a panel titled “Public-Academy Cooperation in Regional Development: Expectations and Opportunities” was held. Moderated by Regional Development Journal Editor Dr. Deniz Akkahve's panel was attended by Regional Development Journal Advisory Board Member Prof. Dr. Metin Şenbil, Regional Development Journal Advisory Board Member Prof. Dr. Kemal Mert Çubukçu and Bursa-Eskişehir-Bilecik Development Agency General Secretary Assoc. Dr. M. Zeki Durak attended.

WE WILL PROMOTE SCIENTIFIC STUDIES

Development Agencies aim to encourage scientific studies in the field of regional development and regional policy with the Journal of Regional Development. Moreover; It aims to increase the number and quality of research in this field by sharing regional, national and international experiences and different approaches.

THE CONCEPT OF THE MAGAZINE

In the magazine, the economic, social, spatial and environmental dynamics of regional development will be discussed. regional policy; strategic planning and programming, policy coordination, institutional capacity, and monitoring and evaluation. It will explore the implementation tools of regional policy. It will present up-to-date discussions that will contribute to innovative practices. It will include original and scientific studies that comply with scientific ethics and have a wealth of literature.

EVALUATIONS AT DERGİPARK

The journal whose editorial policy and editorial function is structured in international standards; It will be published free of charge, open access and peer-reviewed. It will meet its readers in quarterly periods, 4 issues a year, in January, April, July and October. The journal's article evaluation processes will be carried out through the DergiPark system.
