Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu addressed the students within the scope of the Academic Year Opening course of Istanbul Yeni Yüzyıl University. Noting that success is a team effort, Karaismailoğlu said, “The duty of our Ministry is to carry cargo, passengers and data. To carry it as soon as possible, in the fastest and safest way. For this purpose, the main issues we focus on are mobility, logistics and digitalization. Today, 50 percent of the world's population lives in cities. By 2050, this rate will increase to 70 percent and more than 90 percent of the world economy will be produced in urban areas. Between the years 2020-2050, the demand for transportation will double in terms of kilometers in the number of passengers. We are establishing the infrastructure for the demand, which will double today," he said.
WE WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASING THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF ISTANBUL residents
Referring to the cities that are concentrated in the world and noting that Istanbul is among the cities where traffic jams are experienced, Karaismailoğlu stated that they provided the metro connection to Sabiha Gökçen Airport in Istanbul yesterday. Emphasizing that they will continue to make the life of Istanbulites easier by opening a metro line every month in the coming months, Karaismailoğlu said that they will continue to increase the quality of life of Istanbulites.
Touching on smart transportation systems, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu said, “There are 4 main trends that will guide transportation in the future. These electric vehicles will take their place in our lives as the main means of transportation. All countries are making their own plans for this. Shared travel and autonomous vehicles will show their presence in the next 10 years. These will be a part of our lives. Again, connected vehicles will be ready everywhere.”
WE WILL PROMOTE MICRO MOBILITY
Drawing attention to the importance of emissions, Karaismailoğlu stated that the transportation sector is the second sector that causes the most air pollution with 16,2% among other sectors. Karaismailoğlu underlined that 17 countries set a zero emission target by 2050 and said that Turkey is working towards these targets. Karaismailoğlu said, “Micro-mobility has entered our lives quickly and will continue to do so,” and noted that individual mobility such as walking, cycling, and scooters is very important outside the vehicle within a 15-minute access distance, and they will encourage this.
CENTRAL CORIDOR WILL BE THE CORRIdor of the 100 Years
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoğlu said, “We are showing all the factors we can to increase the share from world trade. In particular, there have been great developments in the transportation infrastructure. Currently, the world trade volume is 12 billion tons. It will reach 2030 billion tons in 25,” he said.
Explaining that world trade is made through the North, Middle and South Corridors, Karaismailoğlu said that the Middle Corridor passing through Turkey is much more economical and much more economical. He noted that the journey from the Northern Corridor in 20 days can be as low as 10 days via Turkey. Underlining that the importance of the Middle Corridor will increase with the Ukraine-Russia War, Karaismailoğlu said, “We have created an uninterrupted trade corridor from Beijing to London. This place will shape the world, it will be the corridor of the next 100 years. Because Turkey is in the center of here. Both the travel time and the Middle Corridor after the Russia-Ukraine war will further increase its importance. We are thinking of 100 years,” he said.

Expressing that they will focus more on railway investment in the next period, Karaismailoğlu announced that they will increase the number of cities with high speed train connection from 8 provinces to 54.

THANKS TO INVESTMENTS, WE SAVED $19,4 BILLION OF TIME
Pointing out that they have implemented 20 percent of the projects to date with the build-operate-transfer model and that more investments can be made in Anatolia in this way, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu said: Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, Marmaray, Eurasia Tunnel, Osmangazi Bridge, Istanbul Airport, 1915 Çanakkale Bridge , Northern Marmara Highway, Rize-Artvin Airport, talked about mega projects such as Camlica Tower. Karaismailoğlu said, “We are making an extraordinary effort to finish the railway that will pass over the (Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge) in the coming years as soon as possible.”
Stating that the transportation investments made in a region also contribute to production and national income, Karaismailoğlu stated that thanks to the investments so far, 19,4 billion dollars of time, 1,7 billion dollars of fuel savings, 9 million dollars of paper and 36,7 million dollars of carbon emissions have been saved. Expressing that they are planning investments until 2053, Karaismailoğlu said, “We have planned a transportation project of 2053 billion dollars until 190 and started to work. After that, they will continue to increase. All for the big, powerful Turkey. We are building the infrastructure of Turkey, which will be among the 10 largest developed economies in the world.”
ALL MUNICIPALITIES AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD HAVE EYES HERE
Noting that the Sabiha Gökçen Airport metro line has been opened, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu said, “We made a very important metro investment yesterday. The first duty of local governments in big metropolises like Istanbul; to establish and operate a quality, safe and economical public transportation system. The eyes of all municipalities and local governments should be here. But unfortunately, we, as the Ministry, are doing very important work to make up for the deficiency here. Yesterday, we opened a 7,4 kilometer metro line that will connect Sabiha Gökçen Airport and the neighborhoods there. We will open another metro line next month. We will connect Istanbul Airport. After that, again the Çam and Sakura City Hospital in Başakşehir Kayaşehir…. It will continue in this way,” he said.
Expressing that they have done very well in Anatolia as well, Karaismailoğlu said that on October 11, the Ayvacık Tunnel, the “Asos” and Troya tunnels in Çanakkale, then the 26-kilometer Diyarbakır ring road, then the 22-kilometer Gaziray in Gaziantep, and the continuation. He emphasized that they will open the Malatya Hekimhan tunnels. Karaismailoğlu said, “Turkey is on the right track. The next 100 years will be Turkey's century. The whole world now sees it this way. Hopefully we have a lot to do. As we always say, 'To produce projects like giants, we need to work like ants'. Hopefully, we will achieve all of these," he said.
After his speech, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu was given a speech by the Rector of Istanbul Yeni Yüzyıl University, Prof. Dr. He was conferred an honorary doctorate by Yaşar Hacısalihoğlu.
