İBB increased the number of dormitories from 2019 (zero) before 0 to 10 and the number of students staying in dormitories to 2. The last of these dormitories, Gaziosmanpaşa Male Student Dormitory; Parliamentary CHP Group Deputy Chairman Engin Altay, CHP Istanbul Provincial President Canan Kaftancıoğlu, IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu and Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hasan Tahsin Usta. Emphasizing that creating equal opportunities for young people is their biggest responsibility, İBB President İmamoğlu said; He reminded that they also opened student dormitories in Esenyurt, Şişli, Ümraniye, Bayrampaşa, Maltepe and Eyüpsultan. "But we don't stop here," said İmamoğlu. There are those who will reach even January or February. And besides that, our projects continue, where we expand our capacity by converting some idle, own buildings into dormitories, and where we build our own dormitories.”
Reacting to the fact that he was not invited to the opening of the Pendik Tavşantepe-Sabiha Gökçen Airport metro line, which was put into service yesterday, İmamoğlu said, “Speeches were made about the opened metro, stating that 'we will tell or say this as our own service'. Of course, I would like to be there too, to be invited. Because I said it everywhere: The elected president of this country is our President. The elected mayor of this country in Istanbul, our Mayor. The elected mayor of Gaziosmanpaşa, our mayor. To oppose it means to oppose the Constitution. No individual can and cannot have such a right. Sharing the information, “The budget allocated by the Ministry for this metro is approximately 4,5 billion liras,” İmamoğlu said, “We, as the Metropolitan Municipality, are starting to pay this money as of now. And the monthly outage is exactly 2019 times more than it was before 36. In 2019, with the regulation change made after we took over the management, we will be making the repayment of 36 times more. In about 3 years, this money will be paid back from our budget. Therefore, we find this unfair as well," he said.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) opened the Gaziosmanpaşa Male Student Dormitory and Gaziosmanpaşa Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Institute Istanbul İSMEK within the scope of the “150 Projects in 150 Days” marathon. The opening of the dormitory in Fevzi Çakmak District and the Institute Istanbul İSMEK in Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa District; Parliamentary CHP Group Deputy Chairman Engin Altay, CHP Istanbul Provincial President Canan Kaftancıoğlu, IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu and Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hasan Tahsin Usta.
“THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY IS LUCKY…”
İBB President İmamoğlu, in his speech at the opening of the dormitory, said, “The Republic of Turkey is lucky. Why? We have a youth address. Atatürk entrusted us with how to stand up in difficult conditions, how to fight and what youth means to a nation, in a very valuable way. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk set foot in Samsun at the age of 38. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who set foot in Samsun at the age of 38, was a young person, our leader. In this respect, the responsibility of the youth, the awareness of the youth and the talents that the young people can reveal are very high. In that respect, it is our responsibility to pave the way for this country, which should always receive good service, and to serve them for the future, and to contribute to them in many aspects in education.”
“OUR HIGHEST RESPONSIBILITY IS TO CREATE EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH”
Saying, "We are a young country walking with hope in the 100th anniversary of our Republic," İmamoğlu said:
“The average age of our country and city is around 32-33. In this respect, it is our greatest responsibility to create equality of opportunity in education, housing and job opportunities for young people and to serve them. We will continue to meet their social and cultural needs in solving their unemployment-related problems, and we will continue to contribute to them in their lifestyles, not imposing a lifestyle on them. We took over a municipality that unfortunately does not have a single bed capacity. In this sense, we quickly took action to provide the dormitory, which was already promised in our election. Due to the pandemic, we were able to put this movement into action last year. And we started our service with a number of just over 600. We're close to 3000 now. We want to increase this number to 5000 next year. In this respect, we assure our people, that is, the parents of our young people who come to Istanbul; Here, we are giving our dear young people the opportunity of a safe, healthy, sparkling dormitory where they can receive the highest level of service.”
“WE DON'T KNOW ANYONE, THEY ARE ALL OUR SONS”
Stating that they received their dorm applications digitally, İmamoğlu said, “We do not know any of them. We are not relatives, friends, spouses or relatives of any of them. We have the honor and pleasure of bringing them back to their homeland with a fair choice by saying 'they are all our children'. The witness of this is our dear young people who are here and who are not. None of them entered here with a torpedo. With this understanding, we are enjoying the pleasure of providing this beautiful environment and providing this libertarian and egalitarian environment.” Noting that the students staying in the dormitories will also benefit from Istanbul as a human resource, İmamoğlu said, “Our esteemed Mayor of Gaziosmanpaşa has just said. He mentioned both the Youth Center and other services. In my previous visit to Gaziosmanpaşa, I visited two of its libraries. They were delightful, youth-filled libraries. At the same time, they will act as residents of Gaziosmanpaşa and residents of Istanbul. They will take advantage of the opportunities and opportunities of this place. Maybe they will have taken steps to serve Istanbul, regardless of their future, scientist but bureaucrat but business person," he said. Inviting the young people who will stay in the dormitories to become “Istanbul Volunteers”, İmamoğlu said, “Each of them will be young people who are sensitive to the needs, problems, difficulties and even developments of Istanbul. At the same time, we will provide our dear young people with part-time job opportunities and give them the opportunity to earn some income.”
“WE DO NOT STOP HERE…”
Reminding that they opened student dormitories in Esenyurt, Şişli, Ümraniye, Bayrampaşa, Maltepe and Eyüpsultan, İmamoğlu said:
“But we don't stop here. Those who are currently under construction of dormitories; There are those who will reach even January or February. And besides that, our projects where we increase our capacity by transforming some idle, own buildings into dormitories and make our own dormitories continue. Computer study rooms, dining hall, gym, laundry, ironing rooms… At the same time, these places will create an environment that provides uninterrupted opportunities with 24 hours hot water and generators. How much are all these opportunities I mentioned? 950 TL per person. In other words, we are creating a secret opportunity for our young people and giving them scholarships on behalf of the people of Istanbul. Speaking of bursaries; IMM's scholarship capacity this year has increased to 75 thousand students. In other words, we will be providing scholarships of 75 lira per year to 4.500 thousand students. Let our young people residing in Istanbul apply for our ongoing applications. They are also taken into consideration.”
“I WOULD LIKE TO BE INVITATION TO METRO OPENING”
Saying, "I want to give an answer to an issue that has been discussed a lot and has been calling me from the press since morning," İmamoğlu used the following statements:
“Yesterday, I made a post. The reason for my sharing is as follows: There were speeches about the metro that opened, stating that 'We will tell or say this as our own service'. The first is this: Of course, I would like to be there too. I would like to be invited there. Because, I've said everywhere; the elected president of this country, our President. The elected mayor of this country in Istanbul, our Mayor. The elected mayor of Gaziosmanpaşa, our mayor. To oppose it means to oppose the Constitution. No individual can or should have such a right. So, of course, I would love to be there. However, after such a statement, we involuntarily made a statement. Because we should have been invited there. Because the costs of those metros are cut from our budget. The people of Istanbul are paying back the money for this metro to the ministry.”
“THE IMM AND OUR MINISTRY ARE OUR 86 MILLION PEOPLE”
“It should be underlined, my dear fellow countrymen: The Ministry is ours and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality is ours. There is no difference. Each of our 86 million people. So far, I have been invited to two openings in 3,5 years. I accepted both. I was invited to two openings in Koca Istanbul. I'm not saying this out of resentment. I'm just reminding you of your responsibilities. But I continue to invite everyone wherever I go. Do you know why? This is not a favor. I have to, I have to. I must do it morally, but also as a gentleman. I must listen. If I do not listen, I cannot produce a service. Our President has just stated in his own services. He also thanked us for our service. He also underlined the expected services. 'You're late in the subway. I expect sensitivity from you in this matter as well," he said. Nothing could be more beautiful than this. There has to be change. We cannot explain otherwise to these young people.”
“MONTHLY CUTTING IS EXACTLY 2019 TIMES MORE THAN BEFORE 36”
“Currently, as far as I know, the budget allocated by the ministry for this metro is approximately 4,5 billion liras. We, as the Metropolitan Municipality, are starting to pay this money as of now. And the monthly cutback is 2019 times more than before 36. In 2019, with the regulation change made after we took over the management, we will be making the repayment of 36 times more. Do you know what this approximate means? In about 3 years, this money will be paid back from our budget. Therefore, we find this unfair. We underline that this is a cost that is difficult to reimburse for municipalities. Therefore, we wish and demand a regulation in this regard from the central administration and the government. Although it was late, since 2015, although it has been completed in about 7 years, to Sabiha Gökçen, Istanbul's Kadıköy-I would like to thank everyone who has contributed from the past to the present for the opportunity to reach our airport by metro with the connection of the Tavsantepe line.”
“SHARING THE SERVICE DOESN'T DAMAGE ANYONE”
“We will continue our services. We will continue to thank those who serve. When the service is done, it does not harm anyone, it helps to increase the joy and success by sharing it. We meet, we understand each other, we get to know each other. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all my fellow travelers who contributed in this sense and put their effort into the opening of this beautiful country. We will take good care of our young people together. I know that the good services of our Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality to the young people here will also benefit them. In the same way, we entrust our young people to you, dear President. Good luck to our country and our county.”
USTA: “DUE TO HIGH PRICES AND RENTS, THE NEED TO BUILD DORMITORIES EVERYWHERE”
Expressing his wishes that the dormitory opened by IMM will be beneficial to the youth and Istanbul, Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Usta said, “First of all, it is meaningful and important for us that such a place is being built in Gaziosmanpaşa and that it accommodates our young people here. While this building was being built, when we asked the contractor, the person, 'What are you going to do here,' he said, 'We haven't planned anything yet.' After we came with a request to be taken to a 'private dormitory area', we were also excited about the demands of being a dormitory. Today, we are together on the occasion of its opening. I would also like to thank those who contributed.” Emphasizing that the demand for dormitories has increased considerably, especially in Istanbul after the pandemic, Usta said, “Especially, when the education was remote for 2 years, it became necessary to build dormitories everywhere because of the high prices and rents in response to the increasing demand for dormitories and private places. In Istanbul, as far as I know, the Credit and Dormitories Institution has a service with a dormitory capacity of 41 thousand. Is it enough? Of course not. But it is the duty of local governments to increase these and to support them in this regard. Hopefully, we will continue to increase them," he said.
ALTAY: “POLITICS IS A WORK OF THOUGHT AND CONSCIOUSNESS”
Murat Yazıcı, Deputy Secretary General of IMM, shared detailed information about the dormitory and ongoing projects in his speech. After the speeches, the dormitory; It was put into service with the ribbon cut by Altay, Kaftancıoğlu, İmamoğlu, CHP deputies Gökan Zeybek, Yüksel Mansur Kılınç, Turan Aydoğan and Usta. Speaking before the ribbon cutting, Altay used the following statements:
“I, 5 students, studied in Denizli, in a house, a room, including the kitchen - the toilet is outside - in a house, a shed. That's why I know very well the value and importance of these dormitories. I thank you very much on behalf of my brothers, on behalf of Istanbul. I always tell you, 'You are making someone angry, someone can't take you, they can't digest you, they want to destroy you if they can; you don't mind. Let them not pull. Our Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor is here. I just heard one or two of his services. I come and go from time to time. Here I say 'God bless you' to him. Politics is a matter of courtesy and conscience. There will be negotiation, there will be quarrel. It's not always an argument. Yesterday, Mr. Ekrem asks, 'Where is he?' Let me tell you: in the field in Çatalca. In subway tunnels. It brings back the historical artifacts that have been destroyed and turned into garbage. It's clearing debris. It gives fuel to the farmer. She gives milk to the child. He goes to two kindergartens every day. If you follow this '150 Projects in 150 Days' instead of looking for where you eat, watching where you eat, the matter will end by itself.”
A FIRST IN IMM HISTORY: STUDENT DORMITORIES
Gaziosmanpaşa Male Student Dormitory with 86 rooms has a capacity of 372 people. The dormitory building, which will be monitored with cameras 24 hours a day, is equipped with high-level security systems against possible accidents.
