Ankara Metropolitan Municipality hosted the NASA Apps Challenge, Europe's largest hackathon in the field of space applications. The projects of the 48 teams that won the 3-hour race held at the North Star TechBridge Technology Center with the support of the Department of Information Technologies and the Department of Women and Family Services will be examined by NASA.
Continuing to support the IT sector and young entrepreneurs, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality hosted the NASA Space Apps Challenge Hackathon, Europe's biggest competition in the field of space applications.
The event, attended by more than 600 competitors, lasted 48 hours at the North Star TechBridge Technology Center. Metropolitan Municipality also met the needs of the competitors such as free transportation, accommodation and food.
WINNERS WILL COMPETE IN THE GLOBAL FINALS
The winners of the competition, supported by the Department of Information Technologies and the Department of Women and Family Services, were announced at the end of a 48-hour marathon.
Following the evaluation of the projects by the local jury, the winners of the global final by making it to the top three; Team Tulpare, Team FL Active and Team TT-Sci.
The projects developed by the top three teams will be reviewed by NASA.

Stating that they are hosting Europe's biggest competition in the field of space applications, Information Technologies Department Head Gökhan Özcan gave information about the event and said, “We are very proud to host our student friends in Europe's biggest competition in the field of space applications. This is one of the reasons why we hosted this event at the North Star TechBridge Technology Center, the first technology center we opened. We continue our work without slowing down in line with the vision and goals of our Honorable President Mansur Yavaş to make Ankara the capital of technology.”
Hülya Polat Yılmaz, one of the project team of the Women and Family Services Department, Family Life Branch Directorate, said, “We wanted to be a partner in the space excitement of young people and children. As much as we can, we continue our efforts to make children turn to science and art. A big thank you to everyone who participated,” she said.

The competitors who participated in the 48-hour marathon expressed their thoughts as follows:
Ozlem Zehra Tosun: “It was a competition I participated in last year, but this year I had the opportunity to participate face-to-face for the first time. I'm so excited. It is very nice that a Metropolitan Municipality has opened such a technology center, thank you.”
Gulfem Bektas: “I've read this before, I think it's a very good idea. It's great to be innovative… I'm so excited for the competition.”
Emre Gulac: “I come from Uludag University. My teammates came from different universities. Our project is to create an energy storage system on Venus that will provide uninterrupted electricity for 60 days. We provided transportation here with free shuttles. It was very comfortable for us. The center is very beautiful… It has become an innovative place. We would like to thank Ankara Metropolitan Municipality very much.”
Dilara Star: “I am attending from Gebze Technical University. It was the first time I attended an event face to face. This situation is more exciting… It is very nice to encourage people to these kinds of issues and for a municipality to be a pioneer.”
September Ersoy: “The atmosphere is very nice, I liked it a lot. We do face-to-face projects and it is very productive. Thank you very much to the Metropolitan Municipality. ”
