As Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Health Affairs Department, we want to inform our people about the importance of breast milk and breastfeeding. Breast milk is a miraculous food. Mothers should feed their babies exclusively with breast milk for the first 6 months. Because the content of breast milk; It protects the baby from germs and diseases such as toxic diarrhea and pneumonia that may occur in the future. It is also observed that obesity does not occur in infants fed with breast milk in later ages.

The milk we call colostrum, which is formed especially in the first 3 days, is a very valuable food in terms of protecting babies from microbes and strengthening their immunity. Breast milk and breastfeeding have many implications for the baby and for the mother. When we look at the mother, it strengthens the emotional bond between mother and baby. It increases the development of teeth and jaws in babies. Breast milk is sterile, since it has no additives, it will start to suck directly when mothers take their baby in their arms. When the mother breastfeeds her baby, she will regain her prenatal weight more quickly.

Explaining that mothers should be in a comfortable environment and position while breastfeeding, Sonay said, “When the mother sits in a comfortable position and holds her baby in her arms, the baby will start to suckle automatically. As the mother breastfeeds her baby, milk production will increase. We definitely want mothers to breastfeed their babies.”

"Let's not deprive our baby of this miracle food"

Talking about the wrongs that are known to be true in the society, Sonay said, “Generally, our people think like this; Our mothers think that their baby is not full, that he does not gain weight, and that his milk is not enough. But actually it is not. As the baby suckles, milk will continue to form. No additional food is required for the first 6 months. Mothers should continue to have an adequate and balanced diet and take plenty of fluids for milk. Feeding the baby is the mother's right, and feeding with breast milk is the baby's most natural right. Let's not deprive our baby of this miracle food."
