Ankara Metropolitan Municipality was deemed worthy of an award in the Contest to Encourage Historical and Cultural Heritage Preservation Projects and Practices, organized for the 21st time this year by the Union of Historical Cities. At the ceremony held in Istanbul; Bekir Ödemiş, Head of the Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage, received the Metin Sözen Conservation Grand Prize.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, which has undersigned projects that protect the historical and cultural values of Ankara, was awarded by the Historical Cities Union.
In the Contest to Encourage Historical and Cultural Heritage Preservation Projects and Practices, organized for the 21st time this year by the Union of Historical Cities (TKB), Prof. Dr. The Conservation Grand Prize, given on behalf of Metin Sözen, went to Ankara Metropolitan Municipality.

It was deemed worthy of the "Metin Sözen Conservation Grand Prize" of the Historical Cities Union, to which it was included again after a long hiatus, with the "Ankara Roman Theater Restoration and Archeopark Landscaping Applications" carried out by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, Cultural and Natural Heritage Department.
At the award ceremony held at Fatih Culture and Art Center; Bekir Ödemiş, Head of the Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage of ABB, received the “Metin Sözen Conservation Grand Prize”. The award was given to Ödemiş by the Mayor of Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality and the Term President of the Historical Cities Union Hayrettin Güngör.
THE TARGET FOR THE RESTORATION OF THE ROMAN THEATER END OF 2022
Work on the derelict Roman Theater, which is thought to have been built between the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD, began in September 2020. The works carried out by the Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage, Implementation and Inspection Branch Directorate are planned to be completed by the end of 2022.
Within the scope of the service protocol signed between the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality and the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the restoration project, whose excavations were carried out under the supervision of the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, will be used as an open-air stage with an audience capacity of approximately 1500 people.
DESIGNED LIKE OPEN AIR MUSEUM
In the project, which started in November 2021, Arkeopark Landscaping Applications are also being carried out with the aim of completing it by the end of 2022 simultaneously with the restoration of the Roman Theater.
When the Archeopark is finished, in the area designed like an open-air museum where excavation sites and finds will be exhibited; There will be workshops aiming to introduce and popularize the science of archeology to children and young people, a thematic children's library, and thematic exhibitions describing the historical layers of Ankara.
