Organized with the contributions of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the 59th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival opened its doors with the opening ceremony.
With the presentation of actress Nefise Karatay and writer Yekta Kopan, the ceremony, which was held in Antalya Sports Hall with a capacity of 10 thousand people, started with the image of the history of the festival.
In his speech at the ceremony, Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stated that the festival made significant contributions to Turkish cinema.
Stating that keeping the history of cinema alive and moving it to the present is also important for young filmmakers to discover the culture they were born into, Ersoy noted that in order to have a stronger cinema today and tomorrow, it is necessary to know well what has been done in the past.
Stating that the festival has reached a position that can be considered as the memory of Turkish cinema today and that it has become a ground to trace Turkish cinema, Ersoy said, “When we take a glance at the films that competed in the Golden Orange or won an award, the landscape we encounter is not only an artistic feast, but also a symbol of the Turkish society. It is also the history of the sociological and cultural transformation it has undergone. Ömer Lütfi Akad, Atıf Yılmaz, Halit Refiğ, Derviş Zaim, Nuri Bilge Ceylan and many other cinema workers whose names we cannot name are not only film directors but also people who mirror Turkish society.” he said.
Ersoy said that to understand Turkey, to know Turkish people, and to understand Yeşilçam correctly, this festival offers the opportunity to understand Yeşilçam correctly.
Expressing that they believe in the power of culture and art to beautify the world, Ersoy stated that as a ministry, they have increased physical opportunities in order to develop historical, cultural and artistic capacity, and on the other hand, they have created new contents to make art more felt in cities.
Pointing out that 40 percent of the tourism activity in the world is constituted by cultural tourism, Ersoy said:
“People make cultural trips to closely follow art organizations in various geographies. Such festivals are of great importance in terms of the international competition of both our country and our cities. In this respect, we bring our artists together with our people through thousands of events with the Turkish Cultural Road Festivals. We are building new art centers and protecting our historical artifacts. We have become one of the most respected countries in the world in museums.”
Reminding the words of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, “A society without art means that one of its lifebloods has been severed”, Ersoy stated that as a ministry, feeding the lifeblood of the society is their biggest obligation.
Noting that they provide serious support to the cinema industry, Ersoy stated that they aim to increase the support even more in the future.

"Honorary Awards" and "Lifetime Achievement Award" Winners Found
Perihan Savaş, who won the "Best Actress Award" for the movie "Bedrana" in 1974 at the Golden Orange, and Erkan, who won the "Best Actor Award" for the films "On the Ship" in 1999 and "Takva" in 2006, were at the ceremony. Can was given the "Honorary Award" and Zerrin Tekindor the "Lifetime Achievement Award".
Receiving his award from Antalya Governor Ersin Yazıcı, Savaş said that he had a good day with the cortege in Antalya today. Stating that the festival is also extremely important to him, Savaş said, “This award took me 48 years ago. It's 1974, I'm 17 years old, I got the Best Actress award at the Golden Orange. This means that when people do their jobs with love, respect and self-sacrifice, that effort always pays off.” she spoke.
Savaş wished that the copyrights of the artists would be removed as soon as possible as a reward for their efforts.
Actor Erkan Can, who received his award from the Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality, said that he received his award primarily for Erdal Tosun, and for the cinema workers who worked for the cinema and who are not alive today.
Actress Zerrin Tekindor, who received the "Lifetime Achievement Award" at the ceremony, stated that the artists worked with great effort.
Literary Adaptation Screenplay Competition Awards Announced
Filiz Akın, who appeared with actress Ediz Hun on the poster of the festival, stated in the video recording she sent that she could not attend the ceremony due to health problems. Akın said that he was very happy to be on the poster of the festival.
Ediz Hun also noted that art has an important role in the development of societies. Expressing that art and science are like two wings of a bird, Hun said, “Using these two wings, they fly and become free. In this context, naturally, the Golden Orange Film Festival is extremely important.” said.
Expressing that he would not keep his speech long, Hun stated that he did not want to keep Minister Ersoy, who presented him with a painting, waiting too long. Thereupon, Minister Ersoy said, "If we're not going to wait for art, why are we going to wait?" used the phrase.
Elif Refiğ and Murat Mahmutyazıcıoğlu received the 40 thousand lira "Special Jury Award" at the Literary Adaptation Screenplay Competition, which was held for the first time this year, with the scenario titled "The Lonely People". Burcu Aykar won the "Best Screenplay Award" worth 80 thousand liras for her scenario "When the Shadows Retract".
The ceremony continued with the concert of the artist Mustafa Sandal.
