Pressure Compensator Installation of Unit 1 in Akkuyu NPP Completed

The installation of the pressure compensator, which is the primary cycle main equipment, has been completed in the reactor building of the 1st unit at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS) construction site.

The pressure compensator is directly involved in the first phase of the water transfer process to the open reactor, such as flushing the pipelines and operating systems of the safety systems connected to the reactor. Before the compensator installation, the assembly of the special embedded parts, concreting and support assembly on the embedded parts were carried out.

Sergei Butckikh, First Deputy General Manager of AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş and Director of Nuclear Power Plant (NGS) Construction Works, said in his statement on the subject: “Another important step in Akkuyu NPP's first power unit, the placement of the pressure compensator in its design position, has been completed. The compensator was installed using “Open Top” technology, that is, when the reactor building was open. After completing the installation of the sixth layer of the inner protection shell, it remains only to assemble the reactor dome. Thus, we will actually complete the construction and assembly works and move on to the stage of commissioning the equipment.”

With a height of 12,91 meters, a diameter of 3,33 meters and a weight of 187,4 tons, the pressure compensator is designed to create and maintain pressure in the primary circuit under various conditions.

By the end of 2022, it is planned to close the dome above the protection vessel in the first power unit, to water the open reactor and to commission the pole crane.
