Applications have started for the inter-university poetry competition organized by the Near East University Turkish Language Teaching and Turkish Language and Literature Departments in memory of Kamil Özay, the master pen of Turkish Cypriot literature, who passed away in 2021. The poetry competition, which will be open to all students studying at TRNC universities, is organized with the theme of “Liberty, Patriotism, Flag and Cyprus”.

The top 3 students will win a total of 9 thousand TL in prizes.

Students who want to participate in the Inter-University Kamil Özay Poetry Contest will be able to send their poems until 4 November. The award ceremony of the competition, where the results will be announced on November 22, will be held on November 23. In the poetry competition organized on behalf of Kamil Özay, the first prize was determined as 4.000 TL, the second prize was 3.000 TL, and the third prize was 2.000 TL. A plaque will also be presented to each of the top-ranking students.

In the evaluation committee of the competition, Prof. Dr. Şevket Öznur (Near East University), Prof. Dr. Esra Karabacak (Near East University), Assoc. Dr. Mustafa Yeniasır (Near East University), Assoc. Dr. Burak Gökbulut (Near East University), Assoc. Dr. Osman Erciyas (European University of Lefke), Assoc. Dr. Gülsine Uzun (Mugla Sıtkı Koçman University), Assist. Assoc. Dr. Mihrican Aylanç (International University of Cyprus) and Assist. Assoc. Dr. Selma Korkmaz (Near East University) will take place.

Deadline for application is November 4th!

The poems that will participate in the competition must not have been published anywhere before, must comply with the characteristics of the poetry genre, must be written in Times New Roman font size 12, must not exceed A4 size, and must not have quotations in the poems. While each participant can participate in the competition with a maximum of two poems, the relatives of the jury members will not be able to participate in the competition.
Putting the information note in A4 size, which includes the name, surname, university, department, class, date of birth, address, telephone number and e-mail address of the candidates who will participate in the competition, in a small envelope, put this envelope in a larger envelope, again with the poem in A4 size. It has to be submitted to the Eastern University Faculty of Arts and Sciences secretary. Stating that all university students studying in the TRNC can participate in the competition organized jointly by the Near East University Turkish Language and Literature, Turkish Language Teaching and Cyprus Studies Center, Prof. Dr. Stating that the aim of the competition is to encourage university students to think by writing, to express what they think well and to construct what they see, Öznur said, "We invite all students studying in the TRNC to participate in our prize money poetry competition."
