The 99th anniversary of the Liberation of Istanbul was celebrated with an official ceremony held at the Taksim Republic Monument. IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu, his feelings, in the Memorial Private Book, “Great Atatürk; Istanbul is a legacy from Fatih Sultan Mehmet Khan, who brought it to our nation, and from you, who saved it from enemy occupation. Your legacy is in safe hands. We are working to carry Istanbul to a better future by preserving its values ​​from the past and strengthening it with new investments. We are honored to serve Istanbul and 16 million Istanbulites.”

Istanbul was liberated on 4 October 10 by the Turkish army under the command of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, after the enemy occupation lasting 23 years, 6 months and 1923 days. The 99th anniversary of the Liberation of Istanbul was celebrated with a ceremony held at the Taksim Republic Monument. Governor of Istanbul Ali Yerlikaya, Commander of the 1st Army and Istanbul Garrison Major General Yusuf Kenan Pasha and Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Ekrem İmamoğluThe ceremony started with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem. CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Canan Kaftancıoğlu and IYI Party Istanbul Provincial Chair Buğra Kavuncu were also among the attendees. In the ceremony, respectively; Yerlikaya, Topcu and İmamoğlu laid wreaths at the Taksim Republic Monument on behalf of their institutions. After President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's message was read, İmamoğlu first read the messages they wrote in the Yerlikaya Memorial Special Notebook.

In his message, İmamoğlu said, “Great Atatürk; With great pride and enthusiasm, we celebrate the 99th anniversary of the liberation of Istanbul, the most beautiful and valuable city in the world, from enemy occupation. Istanbul has been cleared of occupation with an effort and struggle that is rarely seen in history, which our beloved nation gave altogether. This epic struggle is an indication of what our nation can achieve when they act in unity and solidarity. We are eternally grateful to all heroes of independence, especially you and your comrades in arms. I commemorate our martyrs and veterans who gave their lives for the country with mercy and gratitude. Istanbul is a legacy from Fatih Sultan Mehmet Khan, who brought it to our nation, and from you, who saved it from enemy occupation. Your legacy is in safe hands. We are working to carry Istanbul to a better future by preserving its values ​​from the past and strengthening it with new investments. We are honored to serve Istanbul and 16 million Istanbulites.” The ceremony ended with the performance of the İBB Military Band.

After the ceremony, Yerlikaya, Topcu and İmamoğlu, and the protocol committee, including Nilüfer Tapan, granddaughter of Şükrü Naili Pasha, one of the War of Independence commanders, posed for a photo in front of the Republic Monument. After the shooting, İmamoğlu invited Yerlikaya and his accompanying delegation to the area where the car of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, which they had brought from Samsun for the Liberation of Istanbul, is exactly the same, and said that the vehicle with license plate 55 TC 008, Dolmabahçe, is the liberation route of Istanbul. He shared the information that he will cover the route from Istanbul to Gülhane Park.
