The construction of the Orange Valley, the project of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which won an international award in the field of sustainable environment, has been completed to a large extent. Orange Valley, an ecological city park established on an area of 200 thousand square meters in the Tınaztepe District of Buca, will be an area of integration with nature for everyone living in İzmir.

Stating that they have realized the Orange Valley with an investment of 26,6 million liras, Head of Construction Affairs Department Murat Yenigül said, “The main purpose of our project is to create a sustainable ecological area without disturbing the topographic structure of the existing land and stream bed. We added plant species to support plant diversity by preserving the existing vegetation in the area. With the educational gardens to be created in this recreation area, the citizens will be introduced to the soil, agriculture and production culture. In addition, a paddock area was included in the project, with the expectation that it will support the area with the presence of a large hippodrome in Buca. We think that the paddock area can also attract the attention of the citizens. Thus, the ecological park, which will become one of the most beautiful spots of the city with hundreds of trees, water channels, paddock area and viewing terraces, will be a corner of the city's paradise.
Sports, health, cultural events together
23 wooden terraces, 2 kilometers of bicycle and jogging paths, approximately one hundred thousand square meters of meadow area, 2,8 kilometers of pathways, 5 thousand square meters of grass area, pond, parking lot for 218 cars, picnic and children's playground in the valley, which will increase the physical and spiritual quality of life of the citizens. areas, restaurants. 45 thousand bushes of 57 species and 28 thousand 3 saplings of 105 species will be planted in the valley. Within the scope of the "Therapy Gardens and Urban Health Project", İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, which aims to benefit from the healing power of nature for the citizens to lead a healthy life by creating therapy gardens throughout the city, will also create therapy gardens in the Portakal Valley. In the therapy gardens, where citizens of different ages, genders and abilities will come together, children and adults will be able to spend time together. In the educational gardens, citizens will be introduced to the soil, agriculture and production culture.
Oxygen needs of 6 people will be met
Orange Valley will be an example of sustainable urban environment and design integrated with nature. The feature of the area as a water collection basin will be preserved and improved, and 26 percent of the electricity need of the facility will be provided by using solar energy. Rainwater will be collected and used in ponds and dry stream beds. An architectural and landscaping arrangement will be made in full harmony with nature without creating excavation and filling areas. Natural stones and wood materials belonging to the region will be used in the buildings and all hard floors.
The plant species used in the area were selected from those that do not require much irrigation and contribute to the improvement of urban biodiversity. It is aimed to reduce the effect of the urban heat island with 2 leafy, 365 coniferous trees and many kinds of shrubs to be planted in the area. In this way, the oxygen needs of approximately 740 thousand people will be met daily, and 6 tons of carbon will be sequestered.

In addition to the "Sign of the City Awards 2019", İzmir Metropolitan Municipality's Orange Valley Recreation Area project also received an award in the Sustainable Environment category at the "Best Sustainable Practices Competition" within the scope of the International Sustainable Buildings Symposium in 2019.
