The 2nd International Diyarbakir Short Film Festival Has Started

The opening of the 2nd International Diyarbakır Short Film Festival was held with the participation of famous actors and directors. Diyarbakır, the center of culture and art, continues to host events within the scope of the Sur Culture Road Festival.

Organized with the contributions of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the General Directorate of Cinema and with the partnership of Diyarbakır Governor's Office and Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, the 2nd International Diyarbakır Short Film Festival has started.

The opening ceremony of the 2nd International Diyarbakir Short Film Festival, which was held for the second time this year, was held at the Dicle University 15 July Culture and Congress Center as part of the Turkish Culture Road Festivals.

Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Ahmet Misbah Demircan, Rector of Dicle University Prof. Dr. Film industry professionals such as Mehmet Karakoç, honor-winning actress Parla Şenol, Ministry of Culture representative İpek Tuzcuoğlu, actress-director Görkem Yeltan and directors Ömür Atay and Banu Sıvacı attended.

Speaking at the opening, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Demircan said that the Sur Culture Road Festival was accepted and internalized by the people of Diyarbakır.

Expressing that the festival is visited by thousands of people every day, Demircan said, “Every day, 100 thousand people visit. 50 thousand of them come to Dağkapı Square. We identified a mass of 10-15 thousand people who only visited the exhibitions. 15 thousand people participate in the children's games. We touched everyone. In this sense, I thank everyone.” used the phrases.

Emphasizing that she is very excited and pleasant to be involved in a regional festival, actress İpek Tuzcuoğlu, the representative of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, said, “Because, frankly, I like regional festivals more. It is something that contains all the positive emotions. Healing, beautifying, integrating, sharing. In other words, I wholeheartedly support the short film festivals held in many regions of Anatolia. Because these are the festivals where the public meets the artists. We are actually coming here for the people of Diyarbakır.” he said.

“Cinema is the most important tool for the cohesion of societies”

Drawing attention to the fact that the most important means of social cohesion is art and specifically cinema, actress Parla Şenol said, “Turkey is a very wide geography. There are different socio-economic layers. The arts have a great importance in terms of allowing these layers to fuse with each other, to understand each other, to empathize and to build bridges. Especially cinema, of course, has a great importance. Therefore, carrying out such a work in Diyarbakır, holding such a festival in a city famous for its literature and art will greatly contribute to the arts and to the unifying spirit.”

Emphasizing that it is very important to organize a cinema festival in a city where languages, religions and cultures live in peace, the host of the night, Gizem Erman Soysaldı, said, “For once, it is a very cosmopolitan place. It is a place where languages, religions, races, societies, everyone coexist and live in peace. Therefore, having cinema in Diyarbakır with this unifying power was a really good partnership.” used the phrases.

The winners of the Labor and Honor awards given within the scope of the festival were also presented their awards. The labor award given on behalf of Sami Hazinses was given to Suna Selen, and the Labor Award given in the name of Sezai Karakoç was given to Cezmi Baskin. The Honor Award, which was given for the first time this year as part of the festival, was given to actress Parla Şenol.
