Special 'İzmir Folk Songs' Album Released for the 100th Anniversary of Independence

The album “İzmir Folk Songs”, prepared to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the liberation of İzmir, has been released. Tuluğ Tırpan undertook the music director and arrangement of the album, which was released with the support of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and the label of “Sony Music Turkey”. The album, which was performed by 10 artists and accompanied by 10 pieces of symphonic music, was introduced to music lovers with a concert on September 10, the anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's arrival in Izmir, as part of historical celebrations. The album, which has been reproduced in limited numbers for distribution, is available on Spotify.

The events of the 100th anniversary of the liberation of İzmir continue to leave a mark on history. The album İzmir Folk Songs, prepared by Sony Music Turkey with the support of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality in commemoration of its 100th anniversary, met with music lovers.

The album, which consists of an instrumental piece and nine anonymous folk songs, was produced by Süheyl Atay, and music director and arrangement was undertaken by Tuluğ Tırpan. Anonymous folk songs were performed by famous artists Cem Adrian, Yaşar, Ferman Akgül, Feridun Düzağaç, Sinan Kaynakçı, Nilipek, Göksel, Soner Olgun and Yiğit Kaya in the album, which also featured Tırpan with an instrumental piece.

Concert on the date that Ata came to Izmir

The people of İzmir had the chance to listen to “İzmir Folk Songs” for the first time. As part of the unforgettable liberation celebrations, the album was introduced with a concert in Kültürpark on September 10, the anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's arrival in Izmir. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor attended the concert at the 91st Izmir International Fair, which was held simultaneously in the city. Tunç Soyerattended with his wife Neptune Soyer. Minister Tunç Soyer, "one hundred. Do you know why we celebrate the year like this? The first is to refresh our memory. Because we have a very glorious story in our roots. We have to carry this story to the present. Otherwise, we cannot build the future. Secondly, they stole the fun and breath of the people of this country. We want the people of this country to smile. That's why we celebrate the centennial with such enthusiasm and glory. The folk songs sung by the artists you see here tonight have been prepared as an album, and we will present it to the people of Izmir as a souvenir of the centennial. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this very valuable project dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the liberation of our beautiful Izmir, and congratulate them for making an album that will go down not only in our city but also in our music history.”

In the concert that started with “Prelude İzmir”, Göksel performed “Poplar of İzmir”, Öznur Serçeler “Phaeton” instead of Cem Adrian, Feridun Düzağaç “Gerizler Başı”, Fehmiye Çelik and Feryal Öney from Kardeş Türküler instead of Soner Olgun. “Oh Give Me a Paper Clip”, Nilipek “I Tied Gum To The End Of My Handkerchief”, Sinan Kaynakçı “Milo Mu Ke Mandarini”, Yiğit Kaya “Esma”, Yaşar replaced Doğan Duru “Harmandalı” and Ferman Akgül “Fly” He sang "Birds Fly Towards Izmir" accompanied by Adnan Saygun Symphony Orchestra. Minister Tunç Soyersang the İzmir Anthem by waving Turkish Flags with the artists participating in the concert. Cem Adrian, Soner Olgun and Yaşar could not attend the concert due to their busy schedules.
