The Fire Symposium and Exhibition with International Participation, organized by the chambers of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and TMMOB, was opened. The symposium, organized with the motto "Big fires start with small negligence", aims to provide information about the moment of the disaster, before and after it, and to achieve academic results.

İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Şükran Nurlu, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department Head İsmail Derse, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Foreign Relations and Tourism Department Head Hatice Gökçe Başkaya, to the opening of the two-day program at Tepekule Congress and Exhibition Center. Representatives of the chambers operating under the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) attended.
“Izmir is safe with them”
Speaking at the symposium titled “Big fires start with small negligence”, Deputy Chairman Mustafa Özuslu stated that he sees firefighters as heroes and said, “They are heroes who are always with us in our most difficult times. Heroes who died in fire, flood, earthquake, traffic accident, everywhere, right next to us… I congratulate all these heroic friends of mine with appreciation, love, gratitude and gratitude. Good thing they are. Izmir is safe with them," he said. Stating that there is a weakness in fire management in Turkey, Özuslu said that the Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç SoyerHe talked about the steps he took with his vision. Expressing that humanity is dragging the world into ecological destruction, Özuslu reminded that forests are decreasing day by day and said, "There is not even a minute to wait to prevent the current ecological destruction."
“Preparation plans have a big impact”
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Şükran Nurlu emphasized the importance of the symposium and said, “Now, knowing what to do to prevent disasters and fires, being prepared beforehand, responding to the event correctly and what to do afterward change a lot. There was an earthquake in İzmir, but we managed to survive this earthquake with the least possible damage. The works and preparation plans of our municipality before the earthquake had a great impact on this success," he said.
“Our seminar turned into a symposium”
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department Head İsmail Derse said, “We had a work going on since 30 March. The process that started with a seminar turned into a symposium today. Our biggest wish is to turn it into a fair. I would like to thank all my colleagues, all chambers and officials of TMMOB”.
Our wish is to spread to Turkey
İlkin Boz, Head of İzmir Branch of the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers, said, “I believe that our symposium will make significant contributions to the strengthening of fire prevention measures and to eliminate the lack of knowledge and training in this field. It is our greatest goal and wish to spread this symposium out of Izmir and to Turkey with larger organizations.”
